Geo Prism/Toyota Corolla AC failure.

Ac on my 1997 Geo Prism/Corolla commuter stopped working.

After determining it had a blown clutch fuse, I had to figure out where it was shorting.

Direct wired to the clutch with a 15 am fuse inline. AC compressor engaged and ran perfectly. Went to the relay next. Tested it and it was completely shorted.

Got a new relay and I'm back in business

Cut the old one open and this is what I found!

No wonder it was blowing fuses.

This is the orientation as it sits in the relay buss. The contact tab broke due to metal fatigue. Then dropped down and directly shorted the two posts! 27 years of cycling the AC....it did pretty well!
