Was thinking if it's possible to make a cheap version of the yakima round roof cross member rails. The stock rails aren't very strong and I have a Yakima skybox 16 that I want to use for camping. I might get a bike roof rack also. The Yakima round rails and attachments are expensive. What's you opinion on using 3/4" EMT pipe (or something similar) and using an electrical strut clamp (as pictured). The clamps hook into the factory strut perfect and would hold down a piece of round pipe perfect. I know that it won't have any theft deterent, as all you would need is a wrench to loosen them, but I only plan to use this while camping and luckily theft is usually not an issue while camping. I'm not to sure if it would be to close to the roof though, to get clamps onto the round bars. Comments or opinions?
