Changing towing cap

Ok i know our max towing cap is about 6500-6800 pounds. If you where to change the rear gear to like a 4:10 or 4:56 so the tranny and engine dont work as hard would that also up your towing capacity because the strain on the driveline is not as much since the gears are taller.

Have you looked at the towing chart in the Owner's Manual? It doesn't go as high as you're hoping, but it DOES have a difference depending on the engine, 2/4WD, and the gear ratio. Since 4.56 gears are available, but not as a factory option, the lawyers did not list a towing spec for that ratio. 4.10 is as good as you can hope for, legally. Remember, if you exceed the chart, you might succeed in the tow, but if there's an accident, your insurance may not cover you if you're over the printed spec weight. It would be a lively lawsuit.

I would love to look at my owners manual but i bought it used and wasnt one in there. So let me look at what we got here. Thank you

just found it 5400 with 3:42 and 6400 with 4:10. Looks like if i want the camper traile suburban or tahoe here it comes.
