I got a lid from the yard today, because I have the crushed lid interior beneath perfect vinyl. The new lid is, of course, the opposite. Is there a trick to swapping out the vinyl piece?

No trick to it. I had mine off in my last TB to repair the pin and rebuild the inner plastic lid. Lots of epoxy and some plastic from a kitty litter bucket, good as new. Just kind of peals off. :thumbsup:

When I bought my envoy last July, the console lid was in good shape, but the plastic underneath was broken and just looked/felt funky.
I removed the lid, applied Great Stuff between the cracked plasic and vinyl lid, and re-assembled. Allowed 24 hours to cure in the summer sun, then re-installed the lid. It's like new again but much more durable now.

I'm working on fixing my console lid too. I'm thinking the great stuff is the route I'll go. Should pick some up tomorrow and get it done.

I'm actually very happy with the results!

This should go without saying, but;
Be sure to wear rubber gloves when working with that foam-stuff. I got that crap on my hands (without wearing gloves) a long time ago and it took me about a week to get rid of the residue that was etched into my skin! Soap and scrub brush did nothing :mad:

I got foam sprayed in there without getting any on my hands luckily lol. I did decide to put some metal tape (like the kind you use on duct work) on the underside where the plastic was cracked. It's probably not gonna help much but oh well. I just did it as a precaution. I haven't used expanding foam much and I didn't want it to kinda bubble it up behind the leather (hopefully that makes sense). I guess I'll see in the morning how well it worked. I just filled the space about 3/4 of the way and bolted/screwed the plastic piece back on. I just don't want foam oozing out everywhere lol.
