So I just got a p0420 and I know it's not my lower o2 sensor because it is brand new and my code reader is showing that it is working. The two o2 sensors are reading both a high then low then high and so on reading so I'm not sure if that's any indication or not of a bad cat. Basically if it is a bad cat what should I do as far as replacement, I've heard that universal cats can cause you not to pass emissions. If I were to get one I'd probably go with a magnaflow one unless I should get one that's already built into a pipe setup.

I have had no problems at all with a CEL or inspection here in PA 
as for sound I believe it is good but I can't tell too much because my flowmaster muffler drowns out any sound it would make.
if your replacing it on stock piping it is 2.75" I believe.
(my setup is custom with 3" piping to the muffler and dual outs that are 2.5) here is a picture of the cat in my setup
