Can I remove the heat shield above the cat and muffler?

Once I replaced my cat, the heat shield against the body came loose and I can't get them to go back up there. So should I just remove them or wrap them around the muffler and cat with some metal straps?

Find a way to retain that shield....it's there for a GOOD reason....the cat gets pretty hot.

I used metal straps and tied one end on the muffler. Also tied the other end near the hangers down too. No more rattle.

The shields are not designed to TOUCH the cat and muffler. Effective is greatly reduced, and the shield could die. That would be a Bad Thing (tm).

:hissyfit: OK, back to the drawing board. Drill new holes, screws and big washers.
