Brake differences

Hey everyone. Decided to join GMT Nation. I have been a member on TBSSowners and trailvoy for quite some time. Me and the family have had 4 GMT-360s. Great trucks. I love them. I have an 08 AWD SS now. A topic that always seems to come up, that I would like to hopefully solve once and for all is brake difference between models, years, etc. I have started with the chart below. What I have found is that between 2005-2006 there was a change in pads for the entire line. 2002-2005 uses one style. And 2006-2009 uses another. No matter what brake system/model/engine all pads are the same for each period. There are 4 total rotors: Early, late small, late big, and SS specific. Also all rear brakes for all models for all years are identical. I have highlited models that share systems in the same color. Please let me know if you have more info to add or if anything is incorrect.

I am ultimately trying to find out what parts swap where and the different part numbers and differences between the systems in terms of brackets and calipers.

For example. The Late V8/EXT rotor is very similar to the SS. Do they direct swap? Or is the SS caliper and bracket required.

I look forward to learning and contributing more.

FYI: The rotor part numbers are centric numbers. I can add cross reference for other manufacturers including GM-ACDelco in the future.

Very nice chart, easy to read and will answer a lot of questions that WILL come up.

IMHO, A few clarifications:

There was no 5.3 option in 2002.
the early (2003-2004) 5.3 does have the larger rotors in the front.
There is no XUV model from 2006-up

The 17" or larger wheel is required for the 325mm dia rotor.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will update the chart to reflect no 2002 5.3L. I knew that, but had originally combined the 4.2/5.3 for simplicity but decided to expand it. Thanks for catching it.

Not to doubt you, as I have no hands on experience with an early V8, but all of the online references from retailers and manufactures indicates that smaller rotor is for 2003-2004 V8 models. If you are certain I will change it.

Thanks!

I went to the AutoAnything web site and confirmed it, my 2004 5.3 XUV uses the larger rotors. All 2003- up LWB use the larger rotors, both engines.

Correct, all LWB models regardless of engine have bigger brakes, but I believe the 2003-2004 SWB V8 models share brakes with the 4.2L SWB models.

The chart reflects this. If incorrect, someone let me know.

I'm not aware of any 2003-2004 SWB V8 SUV models. (other than the non-SUV SSR)

Good point. Didn't realize the 5.3 wasn't available in early SWB models. It does look like the 2004 rainier had a V8 though. But no 2003 SWB had a 5.3 that I can find. And the 04 rainier uses bigger brakes. As does the the 05+ V8 Envoy, TB, etc, so it appears every V8 had bigger brakes.
