Battery Drain Help

Something is draining my battery and I have no clue what it is. The only thing that I have hooked up that I know about is a gps and the battery has been draining before I plugged the gps in. I did install an ipod player to the radio but the radio is off when the car is off so I don't think that is what is draining it.

If the Envoy sits for over 20 hours it is going to be dead when I try and start it up. I have invested in a jump pack but this is getting real old real quick.

Has someone else had this problem or does someone know what it is?

Whem I installed a Sirius interface to the LOML's Jetta I had the same issue, even though the car and radio was off, the interface pulled down the battery after a couple days.

Did this happen right after you installed the radio upgrade? I would reverse the install or unhook it and see if anything changes.

You could also pull the negative battery cable and hook an ammeter between the battery post and the cable you removed and let us know what the current draw is.

Do you have a glovebox light on, visor vanity light on? Just check for a warm bulb.

I think it might just be the iPod player. I was going to remove it soon anyway seeing as i don't have an iPhone anymore. I'll let yall know when I do it

People usually find that a battery drain was related to the last thing they did to affect the integrity of the vehicle. Be that an accident, add-on or mod, etc...

I had the same issue as you.

Turned out that it was the two chargers i had in the front outlets.
One for the phone and one for the Gps.
None of them was connected to anything, i guess they draw to much even at "Standby".

Now i just pull them out during the weeks (i just use it on weekends) , never had a problem since then.

I'm gonna throw out a wild card... ignition switch. I think it has to be considered, we have little of the vehicles history.

I had a similar problem with my battery draining thru the night. Ended up being my ignition switch. To test....at least on my vehicle, if I had no key in the ignition and made like I was trying to start it, it would turn on the accessory power (even without the key in it). It was kind of intermittent though as some nights I probably turned the key a little bit further off and I wouldn't have issues.

I plan on taking out the ipod player this weekend and seeing if that is the problem.

I also left out that if I took a long road trip for like 3 to 5 hours the battery would be dead the next time I tried turning the car on. I don't know if that helps narrow down the problem or not.

Hopefully it's the ipod player though.

Based on that info, it sounds like you could have a bad battery or alternator. Have you had them tested recently?
