Got a lovely B-day gift from the city of Cedar Rapids!!!!

If you play you pay! $75.00 ticket for 12 over, I'll pay without griping, we all know I have a lead foot lol

Just thought I would share. The nice thing is that it is a civil action, so no points on my license and no report to DOT. So no need to contest it, especially since I am guilty!!

Sorry for side ways pictures! I would crack a joke too, but I'll leave it alone

I wanted to mention it cost $600K for Cedar Rapids to install traffic camera's and they made $2.6 MILLION in 7 months!

There are so many cameras around town these days, it is pretty hard to not get busted.

Edit: forgot to mention that 11 over is where they start ticketing. Had you been going 2mph slower........

You mean there are actually people that accept the consequences of there actions? I'm flummoxed.

Nice that it won't go on your record or lose points.

Yeah, like I said not going to bitch, I did it, I'll own up to it and pay. I rather get hit with the speed camera's than get pulled over by an actual cop. It's more expensive yes, but my driving record stays clean, as they don't report it, but if you get stopped by an actual cop, they report it.

I'm getting a blacked out license plate reflector :lipsrsealed:

be glad you did not get two of them before the first came in the mail.

around here there are some on posts, but most are on the front of a car or small truck. so somewhat easier to see.

I bet that louver would be fun in the snow.

Actually that's not entirely true, if that were the case they wouldn't have prices for 1 MPH over which is $25.00. My neighbor actually got a ticket for 3MPH over the speed limit.

Meer- It would be a BITCH in the snow lol, but nothing a little PAM spray can't fix.

man, i hope you guys didn't get this while making that ever so controversial video for the 0-60 thread :raspberry::rotfl::crackup:

but things like this are actually starting to make me a little more aware and nervous while "playing" on the streets with the beaSSt... got caught once already... and barely got off with only getting a ticket instead of 6 points on my license and getting towed on the spot

LOL Juan, no not while doing the 0-60 video....but I think this is evidence that cooler temps not only make the truck go faster but cause some people to take way to much advantage in the better performance

Yeah I try not to speed through town, cops here are buttwads! But I got busted red handed lmao. I about shit a brick though and blamed it on Mat, only to see they added the time stamp at which I was driving, so I couldn't blame him darnit!

In LA they are pulling all the red light cameras because the law here says it's voluntary to pay.

City officials this week spotlighted a surprising revelation involving red-light camera tickets: Authorities cannot force violators who simply don't respond to pay them. For a variety of reasons, including the way the law was written, Los Angeles officials say the fines for ticketed motorists are essentially "voluntary" and there are virtually no tangible consequences for those who refuse to pay.

The disclosure comes as the city is considering whether to drop the controversial photo enforcement program, with the City Council scheduled to vote on the matter Wednesday. Even if the program is shut down, it will be little consolation to the tens of thousands like Brickman who already paid fines.

"Now that makes me nuts," said Brickman, who is unemployed. "That makes me want to go get a refund, but I've been around long enough to know that's not going to happen. It's very frustrating to know that I was victimized by something that they think is not useful or a good idea.… I could truly use that $476."

Councilman Paul Koretz said motorists like Brickman should not expect refunds. But he said the city's inability to collect on the red-light camera tickets underscores the need to kill the program.

"There are many, many reasons to get rid of the red-light cameras, but one of the most compelling is the way the court system handles the tickets," Koretz said.

Complete story: http://articles.latimes.com/2011/jul/27/local/la-me-0727-red-light-cameras-20110727

Something else in another story mentioned that they have no way of proving who was driving.

My MIL got one in Pheonix but, swore that it couldn't have been her because she never speeds.Even when we showed her the front shot of her face and snow top head she still insisted that it was rigged somehow. We all had a good laugh and it led to us selling her car because at 89 we didn't want her hurting herself or others...still drives her golf cart though so LOOK OUT:eek:...Mike.

Here in Columbus, the camera is cheaper...
Camera = $95
Cop = $126

Just don't speed in the school zones in Columbus. They have a speed camera SUV that parks in random locations.

They made the law here easy to enforce. It doesn't matter who's driving because the violation goes with the vehicle. (like a parking ticket). Ultimately, the owner is responsible to pay.

We are pretty lucky here, no cameras at all unless you go into Pittsburgh, seeing as I live 58 miles away I never ever see one. Well, unless we go to the casino but in that case we are gambling money away anyways.

They have to have prices for the low overages.....otherwise they would be saying it is fine to go over the posted. You can get ticketed for going 3 over if you get caught by a cop, but a camera wont charge you unless in a school zone in which case you shouldnt be speeding anyway. IIRC, we dont have any speed cameras in school zones. The exception being the "mobile speed trap", which is a mid/late 90's red Jeep Cherokee they park along the side of the road.

http://www.cedar-rapids.org/government/departments/police/Documents/FAQ ATE.pdf

From the FAQ's section:
note:
Will I get a speeding ticket for going 1 mile over the speed limit?
Iowa State law allows tickets to be written at 1 mph over the speed limit. The Cedar Rapids
Police Department has not approved any violations for less than 12 mph over the speed limit
except for in school zones.

One of the distributors for that license plate blocker many years ago was a salesguy for a Colorado Subaru dealer as his day job. He thought it would be amusing to go into work at 6AM a few mornings, and use his office laptop to blast out a few thousand spam emails through the Subaru dealership's ISP. I got a couple of the spams, tracked his sorry ass down, and was shocked to see he hadn't stealthed it well at all. Called up the dealer, got their IT guy, who told me later they confronted the employee who tried to grab the laptop and run. Yeah, right. That guy joined the list of five amateur asshats who were fired when they got caught spamming me or my friends.

Not that the product is snake oil, but I've almost never seen a product advertised by spam that was anything else.

I put the speed trap map on my Garmin. It's really useful when I'm on long trips, but doesn't do much for me around town since I already know where the cameras are.

I got a ticket from one here in CR back shortly after they got put up. It was the same one as you did at the same speed, coincidentally. I never bothered to pay it. It's a fairly toothless ordinance that I think somewhere around 30-40% of people don't pay. They sent me a couple meanly worded letters. After the second letter, I was going to give in and pay it, but the payment site said my ticket was too old to pay. I waited for a collection letter to pay, but never got any. I'm not going to put a lot of effort into paying it.

Speed cameras are an abomination and should be torn down. I slow down for the cameras, but then drive the 380 S Curve faster than I normally would out of spite.

For all of the 35 mph+ cameras, the lowest ticketed speed is 12 mph over. For the 30 mph cameras, the lowest ticketed speed is 11 mph over. It's funny how the CRPD article Uncle posted mentions the winter crash stats. In 2011, we had only a couple days of light snowfall with no real accumulation that lasted more than a day. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, we season-long snow coverage and a whole range of ice storms and blizzards. I'm sure winter crashes were down in 2011 purely because of the speed cameras and it had nothing to do with the lack of ice.

"If you play you pay! $75.00 ticket for 12 over,"

WOW I got stoped at my house from a motorcycle cop. I did top out second gear on my YammahR100. But did couldn't catch me with the radar. I got a 395 because I opened my fat mouth and said 65mph in a 45mph zone. I need out of this state.
