Are all Denali Envoy models AWD? Or are some 4x4?

I always thought the Denali model was AWD. But I'm thinking I'm wrong. I need a true 4x4 with Hi/Low range. Should I include the Denali model in my search when the time comes for my 2002 Envoy to be retired?

AFAIK, it is 4x4, not AWD. Only the Bravada, 9-7x, Rainier and TBSS were AWD.

Maybe not. Checked with AI and got this:

  • The 9-7X and Envoy Denali are noted as having superior/more refined AWD systems compared to the base models.
I don't know about "more refined" as the 9-7x used the same slip/bang AWD system as the other AWD versions except for the TBSS and 9-7x Aero, which were Torsen true full-time AWD.

My girl's 2002 base model TB has a selectable switch that says 2HI-A4WD-4HI and 4LO.20240211_080004.jpg

My 2002 model year TrailBlazer, built 10/01 came with a switch that read 2HI A4WD 4HI 4LO N

A later replacement switch changed the A4WD to something else like AUTO maybe?

Yea, hers says the same 2HI instead of 2WD.

Service literature at Charm.li shows 3 different transfer cases. RPO numbers NP8, NP4 and NR9 I think.

So the selectable 4 WD we know is the NP8

I think the NR9 is the TBSS and Aero.

What used the NP4?? The Bravada and Rainier etc?

Looking deeper I find all sorts of transfer cases listed at Charm.li for 2006. Were all these actually used or available ? ? ! !

My girl's 2002 base model TB does not show any of those transfer case choices:

May be worthy of note that the RPO does not specify a specific transfer case across years/models. My 2005 Yukon also states NP8 on the RPO sticker but that is a different transfer case than the NP8 in say a TrailBlazer.

I think maybe the 2002 did not offer any other transfer case option so they did not list any RPO on the sticker?

I have shopped many Denalis over the years, I have yet to see one that doesnt have the 4x4 switch, unless it was a 2wd model.

Except for @TollKeeper (good answer), I think we're getting off into the weeds here.

Correct.😄. It's the Denali I was curious about. My 2002 SLT has true 4x4 and I'm familiar with that. Thanks all for the input.
