A/C always on, even if I don't want it

I have noticed recently that the A/C is always on, even if the switch is off. If I open the hood, sure enough the silver pipe across the engine and the silver cylinder next to the coolant tank are cold and dripping condensation. This isn't normal right? I pulled the A/C mini-relay and it went away, but that relay was HOT (how hot are they supposed to get?) so I assumed it was running the entire trip. I know that the A/C switch was off so where do I look to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Depends on the mode you were in. In RECIRCULATE and DEFROST modes, the AC is forced on for dehumidification even if you don't think you're asking for it.

Or it could be a welded relay. Just swap with another one like the HORN or the W/S WASH relays.

The relay will be warm, almost hot, if it has been operated for a while.

You just got back from a trip, did you have defrost (windshield) on?

Selecting defrost will engage the AC compressor.

If you have a Manual A/C system, see page 3-22 in your Owners Manual. If you have Auto AC, see page 3-27.
