So my aero recently got the dreaded P0420 and my shop cleared the code and recommended using cataclean to try to save the converter and I followed the instructions like they said and after noticeably after getting to the 1/4 tank and using it and driving to the gas station a distance away as it said to do I felt brief pauses when accelerating and shaking and it seemed to stop for the most part once I filled up and drove home and seemed fine other then sounding like a jet and did a test drive yesterday and it seemed fine but did one today and noticed shaking and might have been one of the brief pauses and was wondering if this was a normal part of the cataclean actually working?
(In terms of knowledge I am just starting to get into cars and repair and presume the pauses and vibrations were from misfires)

Edit Forgot to add also there was no flashing check engine light or check engine light since they cleared it at the time of this post

If you are having a "jet" sound out your tail pipe from the cats, than the cats are beyond saving.

I know, not the words you are wanting to hear, especially in NY where you have to buy specific cats to meet the communist requirements of the state.

A flashing check engine light COULD be a result of it as well. If there is to much back pressure for the exhaust to properly discharge from the cylinder and exhaust, than the stoichiometry could be way off in the combustion palace, creating a misfire.

In your case, I think you are going to have to fix one problem, to see if it corrects the other. I doubt it will, but weird things do happen in engine bays.

There is no flashing light at all
The jet sound was only after filling up with the cataclean and the initial drive

Communist Converter laws are stupid
Also kind of worrying about the engine since the lower block was rebuilt prior to purchase

You are right in the cats being beyond saving its starting to break apart/ melt

All I can say, it might be worth driving to a neighboring state, and seeing if you can get some standard aftermarket cats, or even borrowing a buddies truck and towing it over and having a shop there install them. Or maybe find a TBSS that is being parted out, and buying them.

Theres a guy near me parting out his TBSS, I will see if he has the exhaust still. Shipping could be expensive, but it would be generally rust free because its Colorado.

Was looking into that but because its registered in NY that would be illegal even if its done in another state and drive back

I have not heard back from the TBSS seller if that exhaust is still available.

I Just heard back from the seller, he said the exhaust is available, but with no manifolds. Which for what you are explaining, I think is fine.

Nice, I just got in touch with my friend who should also be able to help me with installation and he knows someone with a Pennsylvania PO Box. I should have more info next week

I would imagine its a case of you needing to pay me, for me to get it, and then paying for shipping, if this is the route you wanna go...

This is the ad that has it...
