The rear motor on my 2008 is not working. I bought a new motor and am trying to replace it, but the wiper arm will not come off.

I didn't want to keep yanking on it because the sheet metal was flexing, I didn't want to hurt anything.

advice? is there a specific tool someone has used? do you have a link to it?

IIRC, there is a wiper arm puller made, picked mine up at Advanced Auto Parts, any auto parts store should carry them. a miniature steering wheel puller. 2 to 3 legs w/ a bolt in the middle to turn down against the post.

I did my "repair the non-working rear wiper" last fall. I wrecked the arm at the motor as the arm has an imbedded "bushing" (actually some form of knurl nut) in the plastic which is "pressure fitted" on to the shaft of the motor by the retaining nut.
I tried everything to get it to release from the shaft and eventually what happened is the "knurl nut bushing" stayed "welded" to the shaft of the motor ... ie. broke out of the arm. :-( I had to buy a new arm ($100). Even then, it took some heat to get the bushing off from the motor as the motor itself was still good. It took quite a bit of heat (potentially a mistake) to help me pop off the "bushing".... I tried all sort of stuff (pentrating oil, prying) but couldn't get it off without the heat. Having said all this, the heat actually help free up the motor shaft so that it even turned better... hopefully it will continue to work.
So, bottom line: I think if your wiper arm is stuck on the shaft, if it doesn't come off with some "pulling", you are likely "screwed" as the arm plastic will likely fail and disengage from the bushing basically ruining the arm.

Years ago... I was having an impossible time trying to remove the "Welded On" GM Spline style windshield washer blades from what was arguably GM's standard method for holding these on F-Body and other Carline Series Vehicles and came up with the ONLY puller that would actually flawlessly do the trick. If you look at these images I memorialized to describe this tool on another forum...and you can still obtain either an OTC style version or some other version of this K&M Specialty device... you will be amazed at how well this thing works:

This OTC Windshield Wiper Puller may do the job just as well... and NOT cost damned near $200.00 neither. And please note a few last suggestions besides:

(1) I'm recommending against trying ANY other Cheaper Pullers: Save your $$$... They simply Will Not Work.

(2) Without even thinking twice about this... Apply LOTS of Molybdenum-Di-Sulphide Grease to these hardened Steel threads and the Ball Bearing Tip to give this OTC Tool or the K&M flavor one a Fighting Chance to do the Job.

(3) Tighten this thing down VERY SLOWLY and don't be surprised if the WW Arm Pops off like an exploding Hand Grenade and the Tool tries to crack your windshield when it comes back down. Using a few Shop Towels around the Window Glass will protect it from damage when the damned thing finally releases its Death Grip:
