I had originally thought my stereo was locked out (old post) and it had been until I disconnected the battery and reconnected ten minutes later (went with no power for 6 months and powerup seemed to have messed up the vin comparison - lockout disappeared after). Now the head unit appears to work, all buttons displays etc and CDs look like they are playing but I get no sound at all.

I also noticed I no longer have door chimes etc - no noises at all.

I did notice that the driver side rear speaker always emits a ticking sound about once per second while the rest are completely silent.

I'm thinking the amplifier is kaput... Sound about right?

Anyone know what a new amp would cost? I imagine I have to get the GM one due to the seat belt warnings and door chimes etc?

Thanks!

What kind of system do you have? Assume it's Bose or you wouldn't be asking about a separate amp. Ebay is full of old parts that will be cheaper than a new GM unit.

Oops, sorry I don't know what brand. It has a 6 disk CD changer, traffic reporting, auto EQ, auto Volume and a ton of other things I've never even played with.
