I did a quick search, and didnt see anything that fit this situation, so here I am..... My girlfriends Envoy is having issues. I have not personally heard/seen anything she has described to me, but I told her I would research it. And who better to ask than an entire forum of owners. So here it is.....she is hearing a strange buzzing/humming from around the back hatch area. That is how she described it, and said it seemed to be closer to the defroster leads than anywhere else. She is somewhat mechanically minded, and did some checks like make sure all switched relating to the hatch were off, stuff like that. I just dont know what it could be, and having not heard it myself, not sure where to start.

The other issue she is having is with the transmission, maybe. She says that a couple times she has put the car in gear without pressing the brake, and once or twice it has rolled forward on her a couple inches when she started it. That part of it I could attribute to parking on a slight incline, but dont know why it would roll when started, and not as soon as she took her foot off the brake after parking. Again, I have not witnessed this in person, but wanted to throw it out to the experts and see what I caught.

So, anybody have any ideas/suggestions of what it could be, or where I could start to look?

Thanks....

Need model and service history, location and miles on odo please.

The brake shift interlock can malfunction if the brake switch is bad. Suggest getting the brake switch changed first if it is sticking which would allow you to shift without pressing brake pedal.

It's also recommended that the transmission fluid and filter is changed every 50k along with transfer case and front.rear differential fluid.

Does she hear this while sitting in the driver seat. She have the DVD player? Not sure if this is a posibility or not for you. I heard a buzzing humming noise in mine which I thought was coming from the back hatch area. Took a few days and finally figured out my kids closed the DVD player with a disk in it and still playing. Turned it off and buzzing stopped. Just a thought.

1) The liftgate has a few possible noisemakers in there, like the solenoids that lock the glass and the liftgate latch, and the rear wiper motor. You could listen as she pulls fuses to see if the noise goes away. I'm not near my shop manuals at the moment, but there's a thread here where you can download your own set of aftermarket (non-GM) schematics and manuals.

2) The shift lever has an interlock solenoid to make sure it can't be moved like that. If it's in PARK, with the ignition on, and you press on the brake pedal, can you hear a clunk from the console area? That's the solenoid.

if not already done get a fluid/filter change on the transmission. I would go from there and not before.
