03 Trailblazer Cluster Problems

Hi everyone, new here...

I'm trying to fix my brother's 03 Trailblazer for him. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, but am very unfamiliar with this TB platform.

Here are the issues I need to tackle.

1) Voltmeter is inoperative and points straight down. Oil pressure is pegged at max.
I have been reading here that these may be the stepper motors within the cluster.
Are these easy to replace? Anyone have a link to the procedure?

2) Funny thudding noises coming from the upper dash when changing airflow modes on the HVAC.
From reading here, I learned that it is most likely a mode door actuator, and have found a procedure.
How do you know what part number you need and where to you guys get your parts?

Thanks!

Many issues have already been covered by our How-to articles.

1) GMTNation - How to change a stepper motor

2) I've been posting this graphic for years. Parts can be obtained at your local parts stores using the GM number and their look-up software, or Ebay, Rockauto, Amazon, or for GM-only parts, one of the discount GM parts distribution channels like parts4chevys.com or gmpartsdirect.com

Thanks Roadie. I have removed the cluster and parts are on the way. The oil pressure sending unit is probably shot for the oil gauge inconsistency, and will be changing it as well.

I also have the lower dash disassembled and unplugged the mode door actuator. Just for giggles I tried swiching modes while it was unplugged. I still get that odd thudding noise. Could it be another one? Or is the airflow itself flapping the door making the noise?

Thanks!

Thanks for the assist Roadie! Cluster is out and I am waiting on parts.

I now have access to the HVAC actuators as well.

I was pretty sure it was the mode actuator... but now I'm not so sure. I unplugged it and the noise was still present. Could it be the defrost actuator instead? Or is the fan airflow flapping around a disconnected door? (Highly unlikely as the modes are changing...)??
