02 trailblazer radio sounds tinny

My 02 factory radio sounds horrible. It sounds very tinny, high pitched. Every once in a while it sounds normal but then reverts back to that crappy sound. Could a ground or other wire be loose? Thanks to all who respond.

Are all four speakers crappy? If you turn the front/rear and left/right controls to each of the four corners of the vehicle, do they all sound the same? If so, the head unit is the problem.

Is it the same on each audio source, like is the radio sounding the same as a CD?

Also good to know what your vehicle info is, (you can fill out your profile) and what Radio you have and if you have any factory Radio options or non-factory modifications.

Do you have speakers up in the dash or just grilles?

Factory radio & speakers. 4 speakers total. Sounds the same with cd or radio on. Every so often it sounds normal. When it acts up all 4 speakers sound the same. Thanks to all who reply.

If you don't have Bose (no speakers in dash) this is what you reported as only having 4 speakers, it is probably the Head Unit as Roadie already posted.

With Bose (UQA option code w/ dash speakers - 6 total), there is also an Amplifier is in the back.
