Using chain for fan clutch removal

Someone posted this and I couldn't find the thread to give proper recognition. Genius idea and worked like a champ, I just used a longer M8 bolt in the pump and secured a chain around the engine hoist bracket. Saved me a trip to the parts store.

When I pulled mine off to work on the AC clutch, I used a pneumatic chisel. couple seconds and it came right apart. light taps like you would use on a pickle jar with a knife to get the lid loose.

left a little mark, but not bad at all.

lots easier than last time.

I like the chain approach too. looks sweet.

I went to Autozone, gave them some money, and in return, they let me walk out with a 19" chain wrench that had a vise grip on the ends. Absolutely worked perfectly.
Made it the easiest part of job.

I just use a strap wrench or use a long screw driver and stick it in the bolts. Works everytime fast

I bought the fancy pulley holder for engines that don't have a good spot for a chain.

First time I did this a prybar worked for removal, just didn't go well when tightening....dunno. I had a thin screwdriver however it was too flexible. Having knocked it loose again now I think a thinner prybar would work well

When I replaced mine I purchased a cheap 36mm wrench. Just a few taps with a hammer and it was loose. Used same process to tighten and its been fine since.

If/when I need to do this on my 08 TB I will be replacing the stock fan with a dual electric fan. Much better than stock at low traveling speeds and you will gain some HP back.
