two cars one FOB?

Is there any way to make two cars both work off the same fob?

I've got a 2005 Envoy and a 2006 Escalade in the driveway and the number of times I've grabbed the wrong set of keys is driving me nuts.

I'd sure like to have both cars unlock from the same fob and then I would just put both keys on the ring and only have one set of car keys.

NOTE: I'm not looking to make the two cars use the same KEY, just the same FOB.

You can try programming it. They're both in the same generation and might be in the same frequency. I know I did but they were both GMT360 (TB and Saab). If the programming fails, no harm done.

Yes, you just need to program them..

Problem is, they both will unlock at the same time, or lock.

They both use the same FOB so the frequency will be the same.

How do I program them, with the TechII?

Problem is, they both will unlock at the same time, or lock.

That could be handy, one button press at the end of the day and both vehicles get secured for the night.

  1. Close all doors
  2. Insert the key into the ignition, but don't turn it
  3. Press and hold the driver's side door's Unlock button
  4. Quickly turn the ignition from On to Off twice
  5. Release the Unlock button
  6. Press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons at the same time on the first remote to program
  7. Continue holding the buttons until the door lock cycles again, which usually takes 10–20 seconds
  8. Turn the key to the On position to exit programming mode
  9. Repeat the steps for any additional remotes
  10. Test all remotes
Programming new key fobs will erase all previous key fobs, so it's important to reprogram any key fobs that are still needed.

Well, not exactly. IIRC, you can program up to 4 fobs. If all 4 slots are taken, programming a new fob will erase the oldest one.

OK then do I take that FOB to the second car and do it again?

I was under the impression that when this procedure was executed it wrote the cars code to the FOB.

If I'm correct when I do this on the second car it will just overwrite the first code and the fob will work on car two but STOP working on car 1.

What am I missing?

Does this procedure write the FOBs code to the BCM?

FOB is wrote to the RKE Module, sometimes the TGM...

If you have a working FOB, just go to the other truck that its not programed on, and program it.

Thanks!

That's what I didn't understand. I thought the car was programming the FOB but it's reading the FOB and programming itself to accept it.

So if I took the two FOBs from the Envoy and the two from the Escalade and spent twenty minutes in the driveway I could program all four fobs to work in both cars.
