transmission won't shift out of park

2003 I6, 156k...Right now the TB is sitting in my driveway and will not shift out of park or into any gear. When I step on the brake, I can hear the clicking noise it usually make to let the trans know the brake is on. I can also push in the side button on the shifter and hear the relay or solenoid clicking. When I try and move the shifter to reverse, it moves but feels like it is disconnected from the transmission. The display on the dash does not move, it stays in P. Is there a linkage arm from the shifter to the transmission? or is it electronic? thanks

There is a plastic bracket at the transmission shift arm that is known to break.
