my name is K1000KSOME

Hello I currently own a pontiac aztek. Its okay but I'm 16 and I'm looking for a trailblazer. Im not your average 16 year old that doesnt not know a thing about cars, I love cars very much and a very special car to me it the trailblazer. I have a question and I hope im posting in the right place. Im looking for a 4wd lt or Ltz 4.2l trailblazer. I found one that I test drove and I loved it. Its a white 2002 Ltz 4wd with all the bells and whistles. Its at a dealership and the truck has 169,000 miles on it. They are asking $4,600. There is little patches of rust under the hood in the front by the headlights (not visible from the out side) and 2 spots in the back each on the bottom corners of the tailgate. And a little spot on the body right behind the left tail light. I tell you I put about 15miles on it and it runs great. But im scared of buying a car with such high milage. I wanted to get sombodys opinion on this site. Also they have a 2007 lt trailblazer with 90,000 miles on it. I have never drove it or seen it in person but its for sale at$10,000. Please give me your opinion on the matter. greatly appreciated thank you. I will upload pics of both vehicles if somebody wishes.

These trucks run long and hard with proper maintenance. Mine is an 03 LTZ with 120K. How long you want to making payments, less money up front means more money for mods. Just my .02 cents. I'm sure some folks will tell you to get the 07 with lower milage. Can't go wrong that way either. But math is easy at the end of the day. Good luck.

If u choose between the 2...get the 90k tb. Otherwise its gonna nickel and dime ya to death. My tbss has 125k miles and replaced the tranny luckily under warranty. Good luck on choosing

Yeah, SS's tend to be beaten on. My 03 hasn't nickled and dimed me. You just need to know how to inspect a car and trust your judgement and decision. Milage isn't a true indicator of condition. Previous owner can jack up a vehicle. If a car was run for 30K miles on a single oil change, will it matter if it's only got 50K on the odometer?

Personally I would go with the 07. In the end though it is what can you afford.

I'd personally try and find out as much as possible about both, especially maintenance history, but the 07 is what I'd lean toward. 02 was a weird year because as it has been noted on here several times, GM rushed them into production. Some parts are oddities for an 02 as well, such as undersized front end parts. Another big plus for the 07 is that it has the newer designed head which flows better as well as the better PCM and mass air flow.

I would pass on the '02 if you have to make payments. Being 16, having payments and the inevitable '02 repairs is not something I would have done. Offer them $7500 for the '07 and see what kind of room they have to negotiate? There are plenty of Trailblazers out there, you'll find yours.

First my suggestion don't jump in right yet. Figure out your plans are, read some more? Do you want to mod or lift it to put larger tires etc. Have you looked at the RPO code in the glove box for the following in either? G80 = locker, GU6 = 3.42, GT4 = 3.73, GT5 = 4.10. 4.2l I6 or 5.3l v8, the v8's have larger rear axles more after market LSD/locker options. Final gear ratio limits tire size. To give you idea take look at link below. If had to do again I would have gotten a V8 and min 3.73 gears.

http://www.offroadtb.com/articles/tech-docs/gear-ratio-calculator/

Edit: I would not offer them anything on that 07 unless they fix the CEL (check light issue) issues, swap the plugs and service all the fluids, front/rear different, transfer case and check over the 4wd system since I see that it is in auto4w. Test every mode 2w -4wlo, check every bouton, look under the SUV for any leaks and anything out of the normal.

IMO 10k is a little high I bough my with 61k for 13.3k but is 1 step down from loaded. BTW nice color.
