GMC SS Envoy Front Bumper - Do you want it made?

So getting the bumper is one thing, but having to mount the brackets is another thing. The TB owners that have a SS bumper have the mounts and the cuts needed to just add it to the TB. This bumper for envoy owners needs a bit more work. I am making sure all my measurements are right. I am working on retrofitting a low beam projector as well, just to match the new dog
Lights. So I have a few things going. But for the bumper, I want to have everything to mount up and know what I need to add in. Just like the fog lights.... It's not a match to add in the OEM fogs. Also the Courtesy lights have a bracket on the inner part of the bumper for them to mount up what this bumper does not have. Also when mounting HID fogs on an SS, you want to make sure your bumper does not shake around, some SS owners have added a bracket from the bottom of the bumper to the frame. So I am taking all this into consideration. Careful planning as I am the first to do this, I should have a mock up soon on what I plan to do. But for now I am finishing up my retrofit staging as well. I'll post pics mid November. Sorry to keep you all waiting, I am as anxious as you all.

Sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you. I assumed the bumper would mount like OE.

Projector Retrofit you say [emoji3] Looking forward to seeing updates on that as well. What projector you going with?

Maybe you should start a build thread so we can see all of your projects going on

Thanks for the update

I am using the MH1 Bi-Xenon Projector. I also am going with the 50watt H1 Moromoto Bulbs n Ballast. I grabbed a switchback VLED V3 LED and I will be removing my Amber side as well. I bought 2 oem used and abused housing for 5$ each that I will be doing some cuts to the top for my low beam. I also am going to stick with the HID high beams as well only becuz the Cree LEDs are still new to me. I like the idea but I love that HiD burst of light with my Bi-Xenon and HID highs. I would love to do 2 projectors for high and low, but I'm gonna be modest for now and I am pretty happy with my upcoming build. I will keep you all post and load my build out as well.

I don't wanna say it's of poor design, I say it's what I get for jumping into this. I will be talking with the development team of Extreme Dimensions to at least let them know some issues that could prevent more envoy owners of getting this bumper and yes the rear bumper is on my list. But again, this is just notes I have on the build.

So I tried it out today. Just to see what type of prep work will be involved with the build.
I removed my old bumper, wasn't hard, took about 20mins. So after I took the bumper off I attempted to just place the bumper cover on where the bolt line up. Here is what I have to work with. That lower center section looks almost like you've got an intercooler down there. Did everything line up properly?

So there a gap between the head lamps and the bumper cover. About roughly 1/2inch. The the bumper cover sticks out a bit in the sides which can be anchored down by the by bolt on the outer part of the cover, which will need to be modified to add in the brackets that are anchored to the bumper cover.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415484987.016959.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415485016.403058.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415485130.862842.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415485175.879988.jpg

The only holes that you can place are the top 3 in the center of the bumper, those line up fine, but there will be some work for the side to anchor in the body.
Issues are that the cover seems too low around the headlamps area. Also when I lifted the cover using some small 2x4 blocks. I got a nice looking gap from the headlamps to the cover... But then the middle grille would not fit because the slots are lower then the raised bumper. Also when you lift the cover the bumper cover hits the metal bumper... Where the fog lamps would sit on the cover is where the bumper ends up sitting.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415485478.574946.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415485510.443789.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415485548.012749.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415485571.064173.jpg

So the first round of looking over everything, I have to get in touch with Paul, maybe see how their mold fit on their envoy. I have 2 body guys that I will be talking to as well. To see what I can do. I don't wanna chop my bumper for this build.... But... Maybe not... I'll keep digging into this. Again this is just from what problem I could run into. I will have to find brackets to anchor the lights and the side cover as well.

:duh: Nevermind, I see what you're talking about for the cornering lights.

I believe the anchors will be put in place by the body shop, again this is a huge assumption, but I will look online and at wrecking yards for these anchors. Both cover anchor and courtesy light anchors are needed for this build.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415492602.381831.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415493436.593924.jpg

I would be very disappointed with that purchase, if you can't even mount it on the vehicle. The body shop is going to have to fabricate something to make that work, so you might as well have them fab up some fog light mounts for you as well. Hope that doesn't turn out to be too pricey.

So I spoke with Micheal with Extreme Dimensions, and here are some answers.
1. The issues with the side Anchors and the Light Clips will have to me taken off a bumper (they are riveted on the OEM bumpers) I can not find these parts... If someone could help that would be great.
2. The development team at ED (Extreme Dimensions) said to heat up the bumper and realign the bumper. They believe the bumper was warped from laying around, which I didn't know could happen. The told me to heat up the bumper to make it pliable and then squeeze it back together, they also said if I do that, it will push the upper art back under the headlights correctly. Which I will try next.

Interesting. Wonder what would happen to the cover after it sits out in the hot sun for hours in the summer while it is attached to your Voy, start to sag :undecided:

I was thinking the same thing, especially with the heat here.

I wonder what kinda plastic they used to make this thing. Obviously there are plenty of plastic exterior parts on automobiles that have no problems with heat from the environment, or fiberglass is certainly an option. So why would they choose something that's not as strong.

Hate to see what happens if you're backed into a parking spot, and a runaway shopping cart hits it. Probably shatter into a million pieces... :stars:

The type of material they use is a FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics).
http://extremedimensions.com/2002-2009-GMC-Envoy-Duraflex-SS-Look-Front-Bumper-Cover-1-Piece.html

Ao an update, the body shop guys said to just send it back, Extreme dimensions said this could be a bad on and they will be sending me a new one at no charge. Also heating the bumper would not have helped much since it is FRP. I really didn't want to mess with the bumper if it was a bad copy only for the fact that I would not be about to exchange it. So overall I am happy that I am getting a different one. I even did some digging as to what I would need to get the inner brackets moved over. It appears that I would need to used a type of plastic glue and not more fiber glass. I was told this by the body shop guys which helps me understand this a bit more. If these clips were already on the mold I would have done this install myself under and hour. But let's see how this goes. Again, I am being very positive about this build, I know I am the first to thread on these grounds, but it's for the benefit of the forum as we all want this bumper. The cost of the trailblazer SS bumper guys is a bit more, but only for the reason that it is a direct fit. We Envoy SS bumper guys will have to do some extra work to get it fitted, but it can be done! So hang in there guys!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415711173.740353.jpg

Wow, what a disappointment. I dont think we will ever see this damn bumper installed. At least they are hooking you up with a new bumper free of charge. Seem to have ok customer service though, even though the quality appears to be poor.

Could this fit a 2006+TBLT with the grill like the Envoys?
Short answer,

Longer answer, the body lines are different, as well as the attachment points on the header panel, meaning you need the Envoy header panel. I don't know if TB headlights will mount to a Voy header panel, but I know the TB header panel has protrusions that slide into the back of the headlights where that void where the crossbar goes, is located.

Yeah I am still trying to find the cheapest solution to finishing my SS Clone with the last few pieces front bumper, chrome trims and foglights. I have the SS Grille already.

So after the second mold came in. There was a few things wrong with it. I worked with Extreme Dimensions and they just trashed the 4 first molds they had in stock. So they will be redoing the entire mold. This is good news, no one has to go through this issue and I am just playing as lab rat until everything is as it should be. So I will keep you all posted on the next batch, we should see it Mid January sometime.

Thats awesome they are working with you on the bumper.

At the same time it is very sad it has come to this. You think they would have had all of these issues figured out before letting the bumper hit the market. That is why there is a R&D phase for projects. I would have hoped that they would have tried to install one of their bumpers on an Envoy

Thought I would never seen one of these installed. Is the gap between the bumper cover and grille/headlights the same as OE?

That gap stands out as bad as the hood scoop.
Actually, I just went outside to go get the mail, and looked at the front end of my roommie's XUV, he's got the same gaps between the bumper and headlights/grille. Makes me slightly less insecure about the gap on the LS bumper and the fenders. Slightly...

Nothing yet, I told them to send me notice when their new mold is completed, I'll do a follow-up with them tomorrow just in case. I really want this bumper, I even have the grill mesh and the fog lights waiting. I also have a body specialist waiting to install the brackets when I get the bumper. Thanks for the check up

Paul here, I pushed my company to make the bumper. I recently transferred to sales from product development and my last project was getting the correct fitment set with the SS. That was a month ago. I think the only way to regain credibility is to install it myself. We stand by our fitment and will not let a customer suffer this type of quality. We will always take care of an issue like this. to cover a few topics that were touched on, our parts are very durable and will not shatter from a shoppinh cart lol. We use these parts on pro drift cars and they hold up very well. The brackets could not be molded, its the downside of handmade fiberglass molds. Intricate things like this can't be copied. The problem with this bumper is it stretched before making the mold, causing it to be about six inches too wide. we actually had a inter department meeting about just this part and how we can correct it. I asked for an update today on the repaired mold and was told its being fixed. I'm anxious to get this bumper installed myself but ill have to wait as well. I will post up as soon as it is repaired
