Back in the early 1970s, Tim Hunkin had a regular show on the BBC "The Secret Life of Machines concerning his interesting take of Basic Engineering, Changing Technology and their impacts upon society... depending upon the power of economics vs. whatever "The Next Best Thing" there was as it arrived on 'The Players Mesa' ... so to speak. The one particularly interesting example that he gave was the confiscation and elimination of ALL Original Singer Sewing Machines (By Singer) from the British People because...THEY SIMPLY NEVER, EVER BROKE DOWN... NEVER!!!

Of course, the real reason this was done was for the same reason we should NEVER get rid of our Tools and Diagnostic Equipment ...even as the likes of the Big Automotive Industry keep up with their shenanigans by trying to force ALL Car and Truck Owners to "Return to The Mother Ship" via their Local Dealerships and put the otherwise enterprising Mechanics and Diagnosticians... completely Out Of Work!. The Makers of the "New & Improved Singer Sewing Machines" simply could not sell them as long as their Original Brick Top, Bad Boy Singer's were still around.

As a Creative Inventor and Engineer Tim managed to make a very decent, often Humor Filled Living as a "Mechanical Prop - Problem Solver" and a Builder of Ingenious, Clever and VERY Entertaining Electro-Mechanical Penny Arcades. Those of us who can recall way back when MTV was all the Rage... Herby Hancock's Video called "ROCKIT" that was often played and is one that featured and showed off some of Tim Hunkin's Cool, Creative Mechanical Genius at work:

...and here we are nearly 50 Years Later On...and The Man Himself is still imparting Knowledge and Skills that will help anyone interested in the Fundamental Physics of "What Makes Thing GO?" using Solenoids and Relays... a very interesting exercise:
