Hey all I read the deal on deleting this but watched a video and slightly confused. When removing each front axle the axle nut comes off first. But once axle is removed and reassembly is needed what does the axle nut thread to? I haven’t got under to look at mine but plan on doing this procedure tomorrow and Friday. Thanks!!

You take the CV axle completely off the truck, no axle nut needed..

Yes I’ve read that thread already but didn’t make sense as far as there being nothing there to replace the threads for the axle nut. What does the hub ride on then? Is the rotor/hub then just staying mounted to the upper and lower control arms only?

The hub is independent on these vehicles, as they used the same hub on the AWD, 4x4, and RWD units.

Its not like the full size GM trucks they rely on the CV axle end for compression to keep the bearings together.

Dont forget about the Gatorade bottle caps to cap off the differential!

Also, for maximum fuel efficiency, remove the drive shaft from the transfer case to the front diff.

I’m stuck trying to remove the front drive shaft. No more room to push it forward. Only way I can see is to remove the exhaust ??

Never mind everyone. I read that the steering cross member had to come out. I unbolted it but had a hell of a time removing it completely. I’ll post some pics tomorrow of the reassembly

You didnt need to do that... But if you got it out...

You move the driveshaft at the front differential up, it doesnt look like theres enough space, but there is.. BARELY. Once the shaft is on top of the yoke, you slide the driveshaft off the transfer case. Once off the output shaft, move it down, slide it back, drop the front of the drive shaft out, slide the shaft forward, and it comes out.

I just did this like 3-4 months ago on my 9-7x v8

Finished it today. So nice not to have any noises coming from the front ! Only thing that didn’t work was unplugging transfer case and removing fuse#8 didn’t get rid of the traction light. I really don’t car as long as turns so nice now!
