wont take a cd

I have the base radio with cd and having a problem loading a cd. It will pull a cd about have way in and kick it back out and the display reads CHECK CD. I am wondering if I need a new radio or just a new CD drive, have tried several different CDs from burnt ones to regular ones all the CDs I've tried work in my malibu

Well if they work in a different car and not yours I'm going to assume the eye for the cd reader has gone bad. Only way to fix that is change the whole HU! My factory HU cd reader went bad also and I had to change the HU.

I am more concerned about it won't even pull the cd in all the way but u can here it trying to then it kicks it back out

Seems to me that your HU just went bad...well the cd part at least. I am sure there are places that will open HU's and fix the part that is broken but the money that can cost you might as well get a new one that is better or OEM and put that in. My HU did the same thing a while back, it would say check CD or if it did work every min or so you will hear a loud static sound come from the speakers because of the player.

an option if you do not want to put the money into a new HU is if you have a cassette player then you can get a adapter that lets you plug any mp3 player with a 3.5mm jack and play music through that.

Just got a factory cd drive from replacementradios.com and it was a gm drive, it works just as good as it did when it was new and only $100
