iv'e a 2005 Trailblazer and am looking to add wheel spacers for a wider stance, and i have 20" wheels at the moment. am seeking info on what size spacers would be safe/adequate and what are the widest low profile tires i can fit to these wheels. it's a daily city commuter and does not get off roaded.

I'd go with whatever ratio/width would keep the same rolling diameter to keep the speedo the same.
There's a ton of tyre size calculators online, just pick one and see what it says.

The width tire you can put on there will depend on what width of wheel it is, so you need that info first.
It looks like those wheels sit pretty flush with the fenders already. They look good. It may just be the picture angle though, are they fairly flush or are they still inset? If they're still inset a bit, by how much? Don't want too much as it starts looking really weird.

May need a smaller diameter if you get the wheels out too far as they will get into the sheetmetal instead of being inside it on turns
