Whistles while I brake.

I touched on this issue about 1yr and a half ago maybe longer. In warmer weather when pressing down on the brake I'd get a horn style sound coming from the driver side foot well. I didn't think much about as it didn't happen all the time or in colder weather.

Today while my wife was on her way home she calls to let me know that when she hits the brakes it was making a whole new noice. She did say the original sound we had heard time and time again came back this morning but that this one actually made her a little nervous. This one was a whistle! She also noticed that the amount of pressure needed to come to a stop had increased a bit not drastically but she knew something wasn't right.

She made it home taking it easy and as she said with one white knuckled hand on the E-brake lever.

This is what I found under the hood which only tells me it's time for a new diaphragm and master cylinder while I'm in there.20190114_203105.jpg

Definitely some fluid coming through the seams although the reservoir shows up fine with the amount of brake fluid in it.

I'm going to do some searching on this r&r and looking for the best price for the parts that have to be replaced if anyone has any insight on this please let me know.

You master may have leaked onto/into the booster and that brake fluid will kill those diaphragms. Might also not be the master itself but just a bad cap leaking (that happened to my brother's old Ford Escape).

I'd say the master took out the booster. The stripped paint is a tell tale sign. Not sure on the 360s but on the full size it ain't too bad, the hardest part is getting to the friggin bolts under the dash. And getting the brake switch back on is terrible too if you have adjustable pedals.

I've got other stuff in carts through out my phone (amazon, ebay etc) for upgrades or just what I want to do to the Voy, guess all that is just going to have to wait. I couldnt get a better price then what I'm seeing on RA for the parts I need.

The procedure to bleed and activate the abs are coming to mind.:badday:

Maybe not if air didn't actually get into the lines. If the brakes don't feel mushy, you should be golden.

I did drive it around some, no mushy pedal yet just have to push in the pedal a little deeper to floor to get to react like it used to and I'm not getting any noice now.

Hit me up when you do it. I may be able to coordinate something with the tech 2.

Also, as long as you bleed the lines well the brakes will be good enough, probably no worse than they are now.

I want to follow up and close this thread out. 20190117_080946.jpg

Like most of you guys said master killed the booster.

Booster didn't come out with out a bit of a fight. I choose to remove the pcm off its bracket but left all the connections on it and pushed it to the side.20190117_085903.jpg20190117_090451.jpg

Should of ordered the thin rubber gasket that goes between the firewall and booster but I over looked that and choose to make my own with some material I had around.20190117_093533.jpg

The tool that helped make this job a whole lot easier.

This is not in any way a right up but just my walk through should anyone have to do this themself and need a little guidance on what's involved. I didn't see many pics online about doing this so I tried to get as many as I could as I went along.

Since I'm going to install new brake lines, brake pad, calipers and brackets next weekend I didn't take pic's of me bleeding those, although I did bleed the whole system and it's working like new again. I'll follow up in my next post to this thread with pics of the new stuff and the install aswell as the bleeding process I followed.
