Searched a little bit and looks like the weight of stock 17" wheels are 22 lbs. Can anyone confirm this? I'm buying a drag setup for the beaSSt and came across a local deal that I just can't pass up but need some specs on these specific 17's

I would speculate that is probably close. I'd say my oems with tires are some where around 15. But they're the 16 inch variant. The oem ss rims are in the low 30s iirc as well... so yes. That is probably about right.

Yea stock SS wheels are 32 lbs with the Goodyear RSA's weighing 38 lbs each. Drag radials range anywhere from 18 lbs to 36 lbs. With SS wheels weighing in at 70 lbs each mounted, even if I can knock off 100 lbs (all 4 wheels are 17's) I'd be happy with the drag setup

Is your truck AWD or RWD? I forget.

RWD. it's in his signature.

BoricuaSS,
are the stock 17's ok on width for the drag radials?

As far I know something fits on them . I've seen SS guys even use Envoy wheels as drag setups. For now I'm just buying the wheels. I have all winter and spring to figure things out.

Doing some research on ssowners and looks like alot of people use 275/50/17 on radials

WOW anybody want to trade with me for some 20's ?? :rotfl:

My 22 reps with nitto 420s 265/40 weigh 76 lbs each on a digital scale. Probably another pound of lug nuts on each corner too.

They handle great but I HATE that amount of weight.....

Yup.. all about weight reduction at the track and even if I can shave 100-120 lbs in wheels, that a tenth faster theoretically :rotfl:. My goal is 12.90's on my current setup before I install my cam and heads. Before my stall I ran a best of 13.49 spinning terribly so I didn't dare try after I installed the stall back in August. But now with lighter weight and drag radials launching at about 2500-3000 rpms... I should hit 13.0 no problem and hope for a 12.99.

While 22's are heavier, they sure do look sexy!

Wheel weight definitely makes a difference. I can feel a better acceleration and braking difference when running my OE 18" versus the OE 20" SS wheels. Even gained 1mpg after switching back to my OE 18s for the winter.

BT, I bet you would feel a big difference swapping the OE wheels from the EXT to your monster of a TB.

I have been talking about the 97x 18's for about 6 months now. That would be over 100 lbs of rotational which removed from the vehicle. That would be huge! !

On a side note if anyone has a set of 18" 97x wheels I would trade if you have new tires

Those are the same ones JimmyJam put on his SS a while back, and got the rear pair widened to 10". They do look really nice on a white TB.

You guys are lucky you don't live local, or I'd be all up in your ear about trading for your big rims

You're not that far away buddy buddy

I would have to widen the rear when as well, my truck gets squirely with these wide rims as it is. Remember I don't have the traction control the other ss have. Have to be really cautious in wet weather especially

Weight is a big factor in time on the track and MPG's. once you shaved all you can on the vehicle its time to lay off the jelly doughnuts. You add weight to the mix as well.

Damn those 22s are heavy. My 35s on 17s are only 10 lbs heavier.

I had some 36s on 20s for awhile and they were freaking ridiculous. Enough that since I pay attention to weight far more than in the past.

Yup I remember seeing Jimmy's truck in all the pix when he put those Saab wheels on.

I'm meeting the guy at 9am to pick up the wheels. Pix to come

Took the beaSSt out of storage and met the guy to buy his stock 17" wheels. Now The beaSSt can be trailered to the track and I'll be putting drag radials on the 17's as soon as possible. Now hopefully I can experience the full effect of my Circle D 3200 stall. Is it spring yet? :rotfl:

He is not a member on here, just off road TB and the fb pages. He was inquiring about the meets that we have each year (us Midwest folks at least) and was very interested. I told him to sign up on GMTNATION so hopefully he shows up.
