just wondering if anybody has ever checked what is stamped in the GM thermostat? I got a Stant and it was Stamped 86C (186.8F) their catalog lists it at 190F Just wondering if GM playing around the same way. I would think Gates would be same as Stant same company. I havent found any other brands that list for our trucks 4.2

Got my original in hand and other than GM's number the manufacturer (I assume) BETR none of the other numbers look like a temperature. There is a D488S2E stamp on the cup that hold the expanding pellet. If the 88 means 88C then that's pretty close to 190F but I doubt it means that. Interestingly GM's number ends in 88.

my original has C3 88 S2E stamped manufactured date 042203 so I think maybe the 88 is the temperature. so much for all the other temps reported like 192 and 195

Got unlazy and fired up a C to F calculator, 88C is 190.4F. Maybe the 88 does mean the temperature.

Probably the best thing is to just get the OEM T-stat and you'll be good to go.
