What is the sweet spot RPM wise when towing?

I'm seeing this engine likes to generate best torque around 3600 RPM. So I'm thinking that's what I'll be planning on when pulling some of the longer grades. My travel trailer is around 1900 lbs, with a max of 2800 to 3000 GVW. I have the 3.42 Differential. PCM of N.C. transmission cooler.

Any suggestions for a sweet spot without beating up my Envoy?

Definitely tow in third going uphill. You might be able to tow flatland in OD but if you notice it hunting between 3 and 4, then keep it in 3. All depends on weight and wind resistance. You'll be able to tell what RPM it likes but it does its max torque at 3600 RPM.

I've towed a bit with my Trailblazer. Mostly two horse trailers. On the flats or downhill, overdrive can work but it's just easier to deal with and easier on the vehicle to keep it in third.

On steeper upgrades, don't be afraid to drop to 2nd if that is what it takes to keep the RPMs above 3000. The secret of towing is to keep the RPMs up and just live with the gas mileage you are getting. You can also find the sweet spot of RPMs by the position of the gas pedal; if you can't decide between two gears, note how far down your foot is to the floor and then shift gears up. If you need MORE gas than before, then go with the lower gear.

Actually, I think the key is to hold the throttle for a "normal" tow highway speed (60 ish) while in 3rd gear AND locked tc. For my 9500 gcvw, that's around 2300 rpm and about 35-40% throttle position.... flat terrain, little to no head wind. Gear down early either by peddle or manual shft before speed drops below 50 OR watching tyranny slip (loss of tc lock) that happens for an extended period ... probably 2 minutes or tyranny and engine Temps start moving towards the higher operating range.
