Laying claim to fame, first person to install Fabtech 25000HD tie rod ends. Big hat tip to the ROADIE for his help getting the OEM units off.

Here are how the Fabtech's compare to the OEM tie rods.

Looks good. They look like they're pretty solid built. I'm assuming the primary advantage is strength?

Yes, for those of us lifted with bigger tires a lot of guys were already upgrading to the 2500HD silverado tie rods. I decided to try one of the aftermarket "upgrade" tie rods designed for the 2500HD's. Two guys on ORTB had already bent and broken their 2500HD tie rods.

Granted, this part is twice the cost of the 2500HD upgrade, so I'm hoping to avoid any bends or breakage. Only time will tell.

I fixed it :wootwoot::wootwoot:. Pulled the light bar off the roof to examine what was going on with the 2 outside lights. I said f-it and rewired the entire thing. I had 3 suspicions, 1. the wires got chaffed when I had to spin the lights around to the correct direction, 2. relay shorted, or 3. the wire on the light grounded out against the back of the light socket. pulling the light out confirmed that 3 was the issue. There was enough bare connector showing to short out the bulb lead.

Total time rewiring including a new relay and proper fuse blocks took me 2.5 hours. I will get pics tomorrow, I need to get the feeling back in my toes tonight.

Towed the camper back from Elk Neck State Park in Maryland. Our little camping group has done New Years there for the past 6 or 7 years.

I miss our little camper. Even if it was falling apart it was ours and we had some of the best trips in that thing.

Never even seen that park, just googled it and its only a few hours away. we usually do Grays Point or Bethpage, but have some of the other ones in central and northern MD.

Nice! What kind of frame is that little 'Zuki body on? Has to be a heck of a cold ride in there...
It's a shortened 77 Blazer frame with 3/4 ton axles, it's not too cold in there since it only travels my property, the heater works and the 5.7 makes plenty of hot water. This was my track truck at my son's motocross track, hence the "Area 51" logos. It had 44" Swampers, that's why the wheel wells are all hogged out. It got civilized when I retired it to plowing duties...Mike.

I changed the oil for the first time (I've only owned it since July 2013).
After the oil filter vomited on me, I talked to my ex-GM Tech neighbor and he showed me a trick to funnel the oil into the pan using the cardboard from the oil filter box.

Tried to take the truck in to get the tires balanced and rotated (why not while they have them off). Tell the girl taking my info that I needed the wheels torqued to 105 ft/lbs, no impact and need the wheel rotated while the lug nuts are tightened. She understood, the guy that was supposed to do my tires understood and all was nice. Keep in mind I have always used the local Walmart for tire mounting, balancing etc., went back because I have lifetime balancing. Well needless to say we went and walked around for about 45 minutes, and came back to the auto center. The older "veteran" guy was yelling and screaming, he comes in an says can you believe this shit, blah, blah, blah, this guy wants blah, blah, blah. The girl who takes down info said this is the owner and pointed at me.

He starts yelling saying that it is Walmart policy that they must use an impact wrench to remove the lug studs, and put them back on. I explain that I did not want him to as it is possible to destroy the adapter and break the stud loose (I told him I have no issue with the removing them with impact, but to not use it putting them back on). He says hes been doing this 6 years and has never broken a stud, etc, your an idiot blah, blah, blah. I told him that I am running adapters and they are not the factory steel stud on steel hub. I told him dont worry about it I will come back another day (my fiance said if they dont know how to do it then take it somewhere that does, this pissed him off).

I called later to speak to a manager (wanted to ask who to send the bill to since they cannot honor the lifetime balance). He sends me back to the supervisor who was at the register when the guy came in yelling. He spews the same stuff the other guy did, then changed the statement. He said we are very busy this time of night, and we do not have time to spend an hour and a half balancing tires on one truck. I asked him why it would take it an hour and a half, he said it takes a while to remove 24 lugnuts by hand :rotfl:. I asked if I bought it back in the AM if they could do it and he said sure, which works for me as the guy who always does my stuff works in the morning and I will be back on the graveyard shift.

that's ridiculous I thought it was basic knowledge. he can even tighten them all the way down before the actual hammer starts grab a torque wrench and 1 turn later hes at 105ft.

California MD.

When I was calling to verify the lifetime rotation I called the one up the road because the one.closer to home would not answer. The guy said that it only applies to tires bought from Walmart. I called the California one again and the guy said yes any tire that is mounted or balanced there.

I really did not feel like my request was unreasonable, I was going to give the guy a $20 for doing the extra step of lining up the lugs.

Installed white LEDs over the license plate and put amber LEDs in the side marker lights.
I took the plunge and finally ordered a set of mirrors WITH turn signals for about $120. I'm looking to replace the bulbs in those with TXBlazer's LEDs once they arrive.

If anyone needs a set of heated, manual folding mirrors in good shape, feel free to get in touch. I'm looking for $50 a piece.

Finally got around to buying the transmission shift linkage repair pin(s). The screw and nut workaround was OK for a while, but there was always a little play in it, and shifting to neutral usually took some re-shifting to get there. Now everything's tight and firm.

I know, I know, that's what she said!!

The Denali would give you way more money to play with, the only thing the TBSS really has over it is the rims, .7 liters (and 90 hp :sadcry:) and slightly beefier trans. Personally I prefer the Envoy interior since the TB dash looks almost exactly like the old dash from the Blazer.

I installed new lift struts for the rear window. The window wouldn't stay up in the cold weather. $29 shipped for the pair from Ebay. Armstrong #4576.

I also wouldn't pay that much for one that has obviously been tampered with. Rear suspension is wonky (probably easy bag adjustment fix, but still), incorrect F&R bumpers yet they claim no accidents... Suspicious.
