What changed in 06 on differentials?

Looking for a used differential for my Saab and I noticed on eBay that they are listing them either for 02 to 05 or 06 to 09 with the latter being more expensive and harder to find. Mine is an 06. Just looking at it, it seems to be the same as my 02 TB EXT's.

I know I'll never find a posi so I will go with a G80, as long as it's for an EXT or V8 so it's an 8.5 R&P.

And if you are wondering, here's the reason why I'm replacing it.

06+ have a different ABS/speed sensor setup. You can use any axle on 02-05, but 06+ has to have an 06+ axle if you want any of the ABS and traction control stuff to work right.

I should have figured that it would be something I don't even like or need.

Anyway, looks like I got lucky. Found one on my first call to a yard. $200 shipped in from NY from an 06 TB 5.3 with 111k miles.

Now to go and take my old one out.

I think you meant 8.6.

I knew there was a G80 locker option. There is a different posi option? Is it a cone/clutch type? Mine has the G80 but a posi would be nicer for a dd I think.

I heard a rumor that a true limited slip Posi was an option in some non-SS trucks, but only in the "funny" models like the Saab or Isuzu or something. Sorry my memory is fuzzy.

Probably was the Saab and maybe the Olds.

Yes, my Saab had the Posi. From what I heard, only the SS and the 9-7x got Positractions.

And guess what? I got even luckier and scored a Posi G86 out of a 2008 9-7x with only 140k Km for $300 local.

Oh and it's not that bad a job... in the summer! Froze my fingers off in -10c.

Are you back up and running Moose? $300 locally seems to be a great price! When the rear end in my Sierra went out I couldn't find one locally for under $800. It was also the 3.73 G80 8.6". That's one of the main reasons I went with the Truetrac. If I could've found one for $300 I definitely would of went that route. Can't go wrong there.

Not yet. I picked it up on Tuesday just to be sure not to lose it. I had to bring in my pooched diff for the core. All I brought were the case and old carrier with busted gears. I kept the axles and cover as spares. The "new" one came complete with brakes, arms, sensors, sway bar. Too bad the shocks got bent. Mine are still good but these would have been better.

As soon as it gets less cold and I recover from the head cold I have now, I'll start prepping the diff and slap 'er in.

Diff swapping is definitely not a winter sport!

Oh, and that's $300 in Canadian pesos, which translates into about $250USD
