Vertical headlight adjust missing

Last month I found that my passenger side headlight was aiming at the ground, so I went to investigate. The white plastic adjustment piece was present but the black piece it gears into is gone! At that time I wrapped a bread tie around the metal adjustment piece and carefully aligned the headlight per instructions I found online. I later found those same instructions in the GM service manual.

I'd like to do a more permanent repair and get the headlights professionally aligned. What's the part number for the adjustment pieces? I can't find it anywhere.

the alignment stuff is part of the headlamp assembly, you're not going to find individual sub-parts available seperately. sorry

I am not sure on the actual gear size and amount of teeth but you might be able to find some RC parts, or even some small motor stuff at radio shack. Of course this would involve you to disassemble of the other alignment system.

You might be able to run a look to see if anyone has a set in the classifieds or buy new. I think I have my old set in a box, if your interested PM me we might be able to work something out.

Figures :frown:

My records show that the dealer replaced the passenger lowbeam in 5/2006. They probably broke the adjust at that time and it finally fell out. I have a pair of Sylvania 9006 Xtravision lowbeams on order that I found for $13.50. I've noticed that they're dimmer than most so it's probably time to replace them.

Edit:

Thanks for the info/offer. I'm hesitant to take apart the driver's side mechanism since it looks fragile and there's a good chance I'll break it. :bonk:

I'll make do with the bread tie for now and keep my eyes open for a replacement assembly at a decent price. It's a low priority though- I'm a student and I've already spent tons of $$$ on maintenance this year.

Another edit: OK, wow. I got on Amazon and I can replace the entire headlamp assembly for much less than I thought it would be. I might go that route after all.

Sometimes, but not always. The ones I've had have generally been decent. They are also a lot easier to open up to mod inside if you decide to

I might as well do both so it doesn't look strange. Would something like this work? The seller claims they're SAE and DOT compliant as well as vacuum/pressure tested. Do aftermarket headlight assemblies tend to be worse than OEM ones in some substantial way?

Thanks.

:banghead: I didnt even realize you had an envoy. As for ebay lights I have a set on my TB and they have been good to me, going on about 4 months and everything still works perfectly. Lenses still look good and they really give the vehicle a more aggressive look. I think those would look good on any Envoy and they are cheaper than new stock replacements.

I found a used but good condition OEM replacement from an '04 for $90 along with a fog and cornering light. After reading about condensation issues with aftermarkets I decided not to go that route. The driver's side assembly looks very good so I think its wear should match well enough.

I can always sell the extra light assemblies to bump the net cost down a bit.
