My Envoy doesn't use much oil anymore after doing the BG oil treatment. I'm wondering if it might be worth trying the new Valvoline Restore and Protect oil to stay on top of things? I've heard good things about it so far. Any drawbacks that you all might think of? Or should I just stay with regular oil changes with Mobil One? Thanks for any input for or against.

the BG oil treatment.
I'm not familiar with the BG oil treatment? My concern is that if ti does what they say it does, it might harm other parts of the engine by having loose particle that have been removed, block a passage or something they should not block

When I read articles from oil testing sites and/or oil engineers generally any additional words in the title of oils is meaningless. Wording like high mileage, heavy duty, better blah blah blah isn't worth the ink it was written with. They all test out the same at companies like Blackstone Labs who test out the oil. For me I would just have regular oil changes with Mobile 1. I am a fan of Mobile 1. One rice burner I had went 365k miles with zero problems. And the cam still looked new! Zero wear. When I had the trailblazer with the 4.2 it never used or threw any oil and when I sold it it had nearly 200k on it. Not once did I need to add oil between oil changes. Typical oil changes were at 5k miles. Some oils do leak out of engines. I had that problem once with Castrol synthetic. On two separate engines at the same time no less. I went back to my Mobile 1 and the oil usage went back to zero. I figure I have run Mobile 1 for 45 years and probably nearly a million miles without problems so I'll be hard pressed to use something else when it is still working fine. Occasionally I'll send a sample to Blackstone Labs and have them test a sample and it always comes back in good shape. Keeping fresh oil in engines is money well spent and probably the best thing we can do for them.

I bought a jug of the new valvoline, i was going to put it in a 2022 mitsubishi mirage that has 22k miles on it, currently I have penzoil ultra platium in there. When i do the next oil change at 3k miles, I was going to cut open the filter, and inspect it, take some pics. then use the valvoline and compare the filters. I think if I were to use the valvoline in my 9-7x with 155k on it, I would change the oil filter after about 1500 miles, just out of caution. but I can't say I'm 100% sold on the idea that this oil will completely clean out an engine. They even say as much right on the bottle, "Removes up to 100% of deposits With Continuous Use" I translate that to, it takes as many years to clean the engine as it did to get it dirty

The other thing is, I don't think Valvoline restore and protect has the dexos cert. I'm not entirely sure that matters, but it does mean something. But that's for you to decide. Maybe you shouldn't let it in there past 5k miles

I noticed the some wording on it that suggested 4 oil changes before one would notice a difference. I also agree with a short oil filter interval when beginning to use it then do a autopsy on the filter. Thanks for the replies everyone. Always enjoy learning new stuff.
