USED BCM

Question,
Can you install a used BCM that has been programed to another trailblazer? I was told the BCM can not be "re FLASHED".
To my understanding the new unit is programed based on the trucks VIN. Question is if the VIN is stored in the BCM after the programing.
Can a used BCM be flashed by a 3rd party?

Thanks

Good question.

I don't know if the BCM controls the security on the 360/370. If it does, your radio may become inoperative. There are also certain features which the BCM has enabled or disabled based on what it came from the factory with - like heated seats. Interestingly, if you get a heated seats upgrade, a dealer can enable the option in the BCM, which is a step toward reflashing, so I think someone may be blowing smoke in your direction.

Wait for other confirmations on this first before running off, though. I'm going based on what I see on here, but it's nice to have confirmation.

Two points:

1) A replacement BCM will definitely need to be reprogrammed for your VIN, security and oddball things like seat restraint IDs. A dealer should be able to do all of this.
2) There is no difference in reprogramming a used BCM and programming a new one.

The reason why I want to program or use a different BCM from my truck is to remove the TCCM 4WD unit.
Currently I am trying to convernt my TB LT from 4WD to 2WD. I have gone over 2WD vs 4WD wiring harnesses and they are the same part number. When I remove the TCCM and fuses the 4WD service light goes on.
The major issue is the stablia-track (spelled wrong) turns off.

The only thing I could come up with is the programing in the BCM is different for 2WD vs 4WD

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

My experience is that it's the PCM that lights up the dashboard Service 4WD lamp if it loses comm with the TCCM.

Not the BCM.

Why not leave the TCCM in there? Just pull the mechanical bits of the 4WD system and leave the actuator and encoder motor alone?

Thanks Roadie,
I have no problem leaving the TCCM and 4WD stuff in the truck. I wanted to remove the 4WD stuff for a clean conversion.

Not trying to sound smart or anything, but is there a particular reason you want to ditch the 4x4 system?

You don't have to use it if you don't need it, taking it out probably won't help mileage THAT much, and methinks that resale value of a 4x4 that actually has working 4 wheel drive would be higher.

The reason to ditch the 4WD system is a 6.2 litre 4L70E swap. The truck has all trailblazer SS parts, rear, brakes, shocks, springs. The exterior is also converted
I do have a AWD unit from a SS also. figured I would get the swap completed then install AWD.

Yes I should have bought a SS or aV8 TB. Its a long story but I want to complete what I started.
Most of the SS parts were bought from buying and selling old parts I had in my garage from my 1995 impala SS. Lot NOS stuff I paid little for made me a large profit.
So if anyone has any suggestions please fell free to add

Thank you

That is an EXCELLENT reason to remove the 4WD. I thought maybe you were just leaving it otherwise stock and I was going to recommend that unless you just really wanted to be rid of it to leave the system. A 6.2 with a 4L70E should be a pretty nice swap in to the TB, we need pics when it happens!

Do you happen to have a build thread or pics of your progress? Sounds like a great build.
