I believe there's supposed to be a rubber grommet/boot plugging those two holes. The only thing in there is the flywheel.

Maybe on some models, there is not a rubber piece covering those holes. I'm pretty sure I had to remove a rubber piece from the inspection plate to stop the flywheel from turning when I replaced the harmonic balancer.

If it helps... There is one available right now on eBay that will fit in that space nicely. Just apply a small amount of Grease around the lip-edges and tap it in place with a Dead Blow Hammer:

UPDATE:

Those Two Rubber Plugs are plunked inside there to protect the (2) Crank-Case-Oil-Pan to Lower Block Vertical Fasteners that get hidden inside of the 'tubes'. These get formed when the one half-circle hole of the Oil Pan gets bolted to the other half-circle at the front flange surface of the 4L60E Bell Housing. They eliminate exposure to Mud, Rust and Corrosion should the removal of the Oil Pan Pan Removal necessary as shown in the image below:

If you don't know how long it has been missing, I would get a bright flashlight and inspect those flywheel gears. Make sure that nothing has gotten stuck and caused any of them to crack or break.

You may have to put the vehicle in neutral and probably use a breaker bar to turn the harmonic balancer. That's the only way I can think of spinning that flywheel to see all of the gears. I'm sure someone has a better/easier idea.

Yes there's no way that thing can fall out. It was definitely left out be human error laziness. You're going to have to loosen the transmission from the motor in in order to get a new one in there. Sorry and good luck mate!

Not able to find any online microfiche that even shows it. Probably NLA. You're likely going to have to get one used from a pick-a-part.

There IS a 'Creative Way' to get around this problem:

(1) Obtain 2-4 Large Tubes of Thick, Black Silicone as per this Link:

(2) Also, Get some "Mechanic's S/S 0.041" Safety Wire here:

(3) Then use that S/S Wire to Fashion a "U" Shaped Insert to fit up inside those Two Rear Crank-Case-Oil-Pan Access Tubes leading up to those Two Hidden Fasteners holding the Crank-Case Oil Pan to the underside of the Engine Block.

(4) After that... Clean the Surfaces under there with Brake-KLEEN Spray Solvent and when Bone Dry... Inject ALL of that Thick, Black Silicone up inside of those hidden "Tube" areas.

(5) Be Prepared with Strips of Duct Tape to cover the outside along the bottom of the Bell Housing and HOLD in ALL of That Goo & The Wire Rig inside,

(6) Eventually, the Black Silicone will solidify and harden into a Single Set of Plugs connected by those "U" Shaped S/S "Bones" inside.

(7) Later on, if it becomes necessary, you can Remove Those Plugs by Grabbing onto the woven-in S/S Wire Loops on the outside of them and Pull them both Down and Out of the protected location from between the Oil Pan and the 4L60E Transmission Bell Housing ...with a Pair of Pliers.

EZ-PZ... and ...Yer' Dun... :>)

Unless you have Salvage Yards in Columbia, South America populated with Chevrolet Trailblazers, GMC Envoys or Buick Rainiers with the Engine-Transmission Combos still inside, since this SUV Series has not been in production since 2009, ...lo siento, pero... You are not likely to find many of these Odd Rubber Plugs available.

However... if you can get the measurements of the Two Holes under there and compare them against THESE Expansion Plugs... perhaps a pair of THESE would work once they are slipped up inside and tightened down enough to have the friction needed to hold them in place. Then squeeze in some Liquid Black Silicone in the Slot in between to close off the remaining space separating the two Rubber Plugs:

Si crees que funcionarán... Ándale pues
