finally dropped my pan and filter. forgive me as I know there are other posts on this but I want to be sure...sounds like if there is resistance when getting the old filter out, it's probably ok to leave the seal in place.
I am 99% sure I left the seal in the last time I did the filter which means that it's been in there a while. When pulling the filter tonight, there was definitely resistance...I had to gently rotate the filter a few degrees to get it out.
I am thinking that the risks of me gouging something very expensive outweigh the drawbacks of leaving the old seal in....what do you guys think?....

99% leave it. I changed it once and it was a PITA. Never again.

Never replaced it on any of mine because of risks to the housing.

Push the new filter on it, if it holds the filter fine, then you're fine.
