Tis2000 for 2008 4L60

Okay so short run down. I can’t program a E38 2008 Tcm with a 2008 4L60 or 4L70 file. It will program most all of the data then give me an error code.
“Unknown reprogramming error 000001 at step 00”
“Check all connections and reset Programming Interface.”

Here’s the strange part. I can program 2008 ecm’s no problem. I can program a 2008 express van Ecm and Tcm(4L80) no problem. I can program new body style 2007 Ecm and Tcm no problem.

-Running windows xp
-Tech 2 to serial port. No adapter
-OEM tech 2 from a Chevy dealer
-Cracked tis software. I’ve used 2 different versions.
-One is updated to 12.2007 and another is 03.2008. Both do the same thing.

Anyone else run into this, or just me?

Welcome to GMT Nation...

Two things come to mind worth investigating or confirming they are in the mix:

(1) Are you using the TRIPP-LITE Model USA-19HS USB to Serial Port Adapter? If not... consider getting one as it is a sound investment to solve many similar Calibration installation issues with the TIS2000 and GM OEM or "GYMKO" versions of the Tech 2 Scan Tool for SPS Read and Write Through. You can still get one HERE:

(2) Are you performing the Calibrations "In Situ" within the various Vehicles via the DLC to PCM-ECU-BCM SPS procedures... or have you Built a Bench Top Harness similar to the ones covered in THIS listed Thread? In many cases... even the slightest A/C *Ripple* occurring in between the 120 VAC Side of the Transformer and the 12 Volt DC side can be enough to interfere with certain Modules rejecting the Calibration Uploads.

Having a strictly nominal 12.5 + Volts DC Power source that will remain completely solid for the duration of the Calibrations updates is essential... right along with Double Checking to confirm that you are running your designated COM Port at the Highest Possible BAUD Rate.

Remember... it is essential to power the Tech 2 and Hardware through the DLC Power Cable Interface and -=NOT=- by sticking the Power Plug into the Base of Tech 2. Check out the BOSCH Manual and refer to the attached copy of the "Tech2Paths.PDF" as it is THE Bible (187 Pages) for a a Ready To Go , Alphabetized Reference on ALL Use Case Key Pad Entries and Step By Steps to follow:

Mrrsm I appreciate your reply. Great info too.

I want to mention I have no problems doing any other programming with the current software and tech 2. I only have the error with the 2008 4L60 and 4L70 calibration specifically.

-I am using the Vetronix rs232 to db9(serial port) cable.

-I am using bench harnesses only and using the tech2 as a pass through. I am regulating voltage between 13 and 13.2 volts.

I am just researching to see if maybe the software never was setup for 2008 4L60 and 4L70 or if maybe my software is corrupted for that portion. It’s strange to me.

Anyone write a 2008 4L60 or 4L60 Tcm from a Silverado or Sierra?

Because 2008 was the last year that Tis2000 was updated, it's possible that it has a bad program for that particular vehicle/tranny and it was never fixed after that. Or because it was the first year of CANBUS on this platform, programming via Tis2000 wasn't fully implemented. Towards that year, programming modules became iffy with Tis2000. I don't have a 2008 to test on so I can't confirm.

Thanks for the reply mooseman, I’ve actually read through some of your post when I first got my tech2 a couple years ago and learned a lot. Thanks!

I will say, it may be that the tis software didn’t write the 08 4L60 files, it just acts like it does. Like I mentioned before, it essentially completes the write but then has an error. Hopefully someone can come through and let us know if they have programmed a 2008 4L60 file.

The software was doing canbus back in 2004 and for the gmt900 platform starting in 2006 for the 2007 models.

Yeah, GMT360 started Canbus in 2008. IIRC, it has a mixed system with Canbus running the powertrain and class 2 serial data for the rest. The engine went to a 58x crank reluctor using a E67 ECM/T42 TCM combo.

Stupid question... you were using the CANdi adapter?

...and with that in mind...and with the CANBUS "Box" acting as the intermediary...even on the Bench... Powering both the Tech 2 and the CANBUS Unit via the Power Connection on the Tech 2 DCL Cable to VCI location... might just make the difference during the TIS2000 SPS Pass Through activities. Could not hurt to give this approach a try...

Yes ofcoarse. I have no problem doing any programming with anything 99-08 expect the 2008 4L60 and 4L70.

I’ll give it a try tonight.

I’ll give it a try tonight. Although I have no issues doing another other 4L60/70 file, I find it odd.

Does anyone have a t42 tcm they want to try?
