I got a 2004 Envoy XUV loaded with the 5.3 which I absolutely love! I would buy another in a heartbeat if they made them. I have a dog and do light construction so, having the inside 8 foot bed inside, is a really nice feature. This truck gets 19mpg on the highway in 2wd and has the 4wd option. So, the gas millage is decent. My question, I know these 5.3s are great engines and wondering what I can get to replace this one with all or close to all the same features. Now, I'm looking at the Suburban to get close to what I have now but not really interested in spending more money on fuel. What would you guys do?

Could always look for a low mileage xuv and get another one. Or the 2007+up avalanches are sweet too, but the mpgs are the same as a suburban.

Keep riding the Envoy XUV. Nothing can even come close to replacing it.

Why are you trying to replace it anyways?

As mentioned - your mission sounds perfect for an XUV. Did your mission change, or did the XUV start to not fulfill it?

It is rolling up on 200,000 miles and I am getting some piston slap when cold. Other things like old school NAV/Stereo and Squeaky seat springs and leather wear are starting to get to me a bit. I like my trucks super clean and worry free.

Can I put a Cap on an Avalanche and leave the back open?

Piston slap, per GM, is part of the design..

Could always just go buy another XUV..

xuv | eBay

Yes. I have a friend that always keeps a cap on his. Not sure of the brand.

Is it tight? Looking to find out how it feels driving with the midgate down all the time. You know, wind/rain noise, squeaking, cold air transfer...that kinda stuff.

The one he has is called 'snug top' and I asked about it. He says the rain never has been an issue and often uses it to camp.

You are in a tough spot if you like the xuv set up. I've never searched them but have only seen a couple over the years. I wonder how many others with low miles are even around. I hate spending tons on money on vehicles and new body style Tahoes seem to be where the resale sticks around. You can get the old body style 2006 and under for practically nothing by comparison and it seems that suburbans/Yukon XL are cheep too.

FYI....My solution. It took a while to put in together but it was worth it. I still have the XUV, as it is such a great vehicle and hard to part with.

Depending on what is going on with that it may be a simple-ish fix if you catch it early enough. At 200k though it is hard to say.

That paint job is actually pretty killer.

I just find it funny that you have an SUV that turns into a truck, and now a truck that turns into an SUV :rotfl:

I bought the truck used with 12,000 miles on it. The paint and custom body panels/exhaust mods were done by a company called Southern Comfort Conversions. From what I am told they are no longer in business. You can still buy the parts. They did a good number of these as a $10,000 option direct from the dealer when new. I found a snugtop used and had it painted to match and modified to auto lock with key fob. The low profile tires I had on there before didn't cut it in the snow so, I bought these rims and tires.

Yeah but when I want the Avy "SUV" to go back to a pick up, it takes about 20 minutes and two guys to pull the cap!
