Lol, "The Shed", those are fighting words around my house! I say build a shed because you can build what you want from a small shed to keep lawnmower, bikes and stuff in or build it bigger kinda like a shed/shop with hydro and a place to work and hang out.

A few years back I had to replace my garden shed, 8x10 wood shed built outta scraps, unpainted particle board covering it, mismatched shingles, filled with water every spring, etc etc etc. It came with the house I didn't build it.

One day I had an opportunity to buy 2x6x8's for $1 each so I bought 100. Next day sat down and drew a plan for a shed. I had to get a permit because of the size 12x16. I ordered custom trusses as they come with certification for snow load and whatever else the City needed for the permit. My friend is a framer and he did all the wood construction in a day and a 1/2. It's post on piers, 4x4 pressure treated posts sitting on 4"x10" cement piers 48" in the ground and back filled, as per code here the posts are wrapped in poly so the frost heave will slide on the post instead of lifting it. The deck/floor is 2x8 beams on 16" centers, all spaces filled with thick blue Styrofoam insulation and then 3/4" pressure treated plywood covering that. Walls are 2x6 with R22 roxul insulation. All interior wood seams are caulked floor to ceiling and then poly over the walls and ceiling, all switches and receptacles have poly around them and then tuck taped to wall poly. It's airtight to the point that if all doors and windows are closed the exhaust fan sucks the plastic from the wall. I have 2 doors for attic storage as the attic floor is all plywood providing lots of storage space. I ran 30 amps to a sub panel in the shed and a tv cable too. I put 2 lights in the attic, a main ceiling light, a bench light, a dart board light and an outside light. Lots of receptacles on different circuits and an outside gfi plug as well. I also put a high flow variable speed exhaust fan in the ceiling since I smoke. The outside is plywood walls and the shed is wrapped twice with that ty vek cloth paper stuff and tuck taped on all seams. Vinyl siding over that, Aluminum soffit, fascia, eaves n down pipes.

Started with a $100 worth of 2x8's and now I'm close to $7500 spent and still need to finish the inside walls n ceiling...I will when the funds permit.

I do spend a lot of time in the shed, I have all the comforts I need out here, hydro, tv, beer fridge, stereo 4 speakers n PS1 sub, laptop/wifi, dart board. I heat in the winter with a propane convection heater to warm it up quick and maintain the heat with a 750/1500 w heater. It's kinda funny because my friends come to the shed looking for me before they go to the house. It's a bit of a sore spot with my wife because I do spend so much time out here...

Now I need to build a shed for the lawnmower n stuff...

I'm planning on building a 10' x 12 next year so I can get the 2 lawn mowers, edger, weed eater, spreader, snow blower, chairs, gas cans and ladders out of the garage and get my JD lawn tractor under cover.

I think I'm going to go with the gambrel roof (because although I'm handy at building things, it's easier than a barn roof), sheath it in T1-11 and call it a day. No permit required because it's less than 500 sqft.

I had a 10'x12' shed delivered last year. I use it for projects and painting small car parts.

If I could fit a toilet, 'fridge, recliner and a TV in there, my wife would never see me again!

I bought a metal. Shed kit from canadian tire. 12X14, cost me 899 and another couple hundred for lumber to build a foundation. Don't think I could have built anything closo that size for the same money. My dad bought an 8X10 plastic shed, it was 1400ish. Not as cost effective but it looks nicer. Not nearly as sturdy as my metal shed tho.

Wow.

I am really embarrassed to say this is the only photo I have of my shed :sadcry:

It is 12'x14' and my wife was all for it. I was going to get a simple shed, but when we went to look she liked the vinyl siding, 8" overhangs, ridge vent, etc. Of course all this was extra, but it was stuff she liked

We got the siding, window trim, and shingles match the house

All total was $3700 with the stone base and permits. Had a bit of a fight with the township until I reminded them we had 11 acres and it won't be up against a neighbor's house

I use it for the tractor, misc tools, patio furniture....basically anythign that was taking up room in the garage. Now we have room to park in the garage without fear of hitting stuff.

Love seeing these pictures. Good thread

The garage journal is a great resource. My dad just got in on a lift buy. 10K Rotary lift for a real good buy. He is going to put it in his new "shed" once i finish the layout. He is only giving my 40x60 to work with and I need to figure doors, office, compressor, tire machine and balancer, lift, electric, water placement....Its a good kinda problem. I think he is basically letting me decide on things since I will use it more and he likes to own junk and make me help keep it alive.

I have a 2 car det garage with carport we enclosed and a 8 by 12 shed behind it. Can see the work on making the carport a tool room here... http://gmtnation.com/f72/patio-toolroom-5115/

Here is my shed. 36x45 with 10' sidewalls. Pardon the branches laying around, the pic was taken the day after a tornado went through the neighborhood.

Was actually out at the shed filling it up today and took a few pics. Mostly household / yard stuff in there.

Challenge: Spot the GMT part

The Whelen Liberty on the left by the trashcan or what looks to be a cargo cover in the far right in the corner.

If you're ever in Ontario I hope you do come by, the hydro is always on in the shed  and the welcome mat is always out to anyone on this site. I'm gonna get one of those open signs for the shed window so my buddies know when I'm out here...
