Frontier Airlines flight bound for Tampa makes emergency landing after engine problem

1543617895726.png

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX 13) - A Tampa-bound Frontier Airlines flight leaving Las Vegas had to return to the airport minutes later because of an engine problem.
A passenger on board the plane took a photo of the cover of the engine, which had shredded off while Flight 260 was climbing into the air Friday morning.
Frontier confirmed the section of the engine cowling "came loose and separated from the aircraft," but said the engine continued to operate normally. The aircraft, which was an Airbus 320, landed safely, according to the airline.
Frontier said they were working with passengers to get them to their destinations quickly. "Passengers have been given a refund, plus a $500 voucher for future travel on Frontier, and we are re-booking them on other airlines in order to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible," spokeswoman Allison Redmon said in a statement.
There were 166 people on board the flight, according to FOX 5 in Las Vegas. No one was hurt.

SNOWBALL FIGHTS NOW LEGAL IN SEVERANCE BECAUSE OF THIS
NINE YEAR OLD BOY!
1543973503748.png
Dane Best, 9, took tough questions from members of the Severance Town Board on Monday night when he presented a list of reasons why they should repeal a ban on snowball fights.
"Can we amend this ordinance to say that if you're over 60, no one can throw a snowball at you?" asked Trustee Dennis "Zeke" Kane.
Trustee Michelle Duda posed this question: "If we do enact snowball fighting, have you talked to your fellow students about safety issues?"
Dane, who has been working on a presentation for the town board for the past month, was prepared. He doesn't plan to throw snowballs with rocks inside of them at anyone, he said, and he’d never throw a snowball at a window.

"The children of Severance want the opportunity to have a snowball fight like the rest of the world," he said during his presentation. "The law was created many years ago. Today's kids need a reason to play outside."
His three-minute presentation worked.
Severance Town Board officially made snowball fights within town limits legal after Dane asked the board to repeal the ordinance, which town officials think is as old as the town itself.
The rule is part of a larger ordinance that prevented people from throwing missiles or stones at people or property, and the ban wasn’t enforced in Severance. But after learning about the ordinance on a field trip this fall, Dane wanted to change it anyway.
Dane's presentation Monday was filled with an audience of children and their parents, who cheered when they heard the news.
Just minutes later, when the ban officially ended, Mayor Don McLeod stepped outside with two snowballs. Dane and his little brother, Dax, 4, threw the first legal snowballs in Severance history.
After the meeting, Dane and Dax’s grandfather, Rick Best, stood back and took the in the scene as Dane and his parents took questions from reporters. He thought about how much Dane has learned about local government, and how many kids might think about getting involved themselves.
"He's always been timid and bashful, so when he told me he was doing that, I said, 'Good for you, Daners,' especially at this age now, to be able to do that," he said. "Because his grandpa couldn't."

Presidential funeral train will be first in nearly 50 years

1544104261072.png
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The locomotive was painted to resemble Air Force One, but George H.W. Bush joked that if it had been around during his presidency, he may have preferred to ride the rails rather than take to the skies.

"I might have left Air Force One behind," Bush quipped during the 2005 unveiling of 4141, a blue and gray locomotive commissioned in honor of the 41st president and unveiled at Texas A&M University.

On Thursday, that same 4,300-horsepower machine will carry Bush's casket, along with relatives and close friends, for around 70 miles (113 kilometers). The journey through five small Texas towns was expected to take about two and a half hours. It will deliver the casket from suburban Houston to College Station.

AND YOU THINK YOU had a Bad day at WORK!

When ROBOTS go bad:

The 49-year-old was on the night shift at a porcelain factory in China when the accident happened

A CHINESE factory worker has survived being skewered with TEN metal spikes when a robot malfunctioned.

The 49-year-old, named as Mr Zhou, was working on the night shift at a porcelain factory in Hunan province when he was struck by a falling robotic arm.
The accident resulted in him being impaled with foot long, half-inch thick metal rods, the People’s Daily reported.

He was first taken to a local hospital before he was transferred to the Xiangya Hospital of Central South University due to the severity of his injuries.

Six steel rods fixed on a steel plate pierced his right shoulder and chest, and four penetrated elsewhere in his body.

During the operation, doctors found that one of the rods missed an artery by just 0.1mm.

The rods also prevented doctors from carrying out X-rays before the operation.

“They were relatively big so there was no means of getting fitting the patient into the X-ray machine while the nails themselves could have caused interference with X-rays," said Wu Panfeng, an associate professor of hand microsurgery.

Surgeons worked through the night to take out all of the rods in Mr Zhou's body.

A BRITISH army sniper once killed six terrorists with a single bullet from one of the Army’s most powerful guns.

The unidentified marksman, a Lance Corporal in the Coldstream Guards, hit the target from 930 yards (850 metres) away while in Kakaran in southern Afghanistan.
“He had a shawl on. It rose up and the sniper saw he had a machine gun.

“They were in contact and he was moving to a firing position. The sniper engaged him and the guy exploded.

“There was a pause on the radio and the sniper said, 'I think I’ve just shot a suicide bomber’. The rest of them were killed in the blast.”

The vest was said to have had 44 pounds (20 kilos) of explosives in it.

It was reported that with the sniper’s first shot on that tour of duty he killed a Taliban machine-gunner from 1,465 yards (1,340m). That's more than 3/4 of a mile away!
