Even though the Basic Ideas behind “What Makes The Tesla Model S Run?” are so straightforward that anyone can grasp the wonderful idea behind “Driving a Silently Powered Electric Car”… things begin to get much more complicated as soon a the “On Button” gets pushed and without the slightest necessity for any “Warm Up” time that all Fossil Fuel Powered Vehicles enjoy… You can just “GO...”.

However, that is exactly when the REAL Problems of “What Powers These Electric Cars?” and “How Long Does it Take to “Filler-UP” between Battery Charges?” comes seriously to the fore. The Standard Heavy Weight Car and Truck Lead-Acid (Sulfuric Acid H2SO4)→Pb Plates) for generating High Amperage-Low Voltage just to get the Mechanical Internal Parts to turn over and Start the 4 Cycle Engines becomes woefully inadequate inside of any Electric Vehicle. This is primarily due to the sheer amount of Added Weight of requiring so many of these batteries to sustain the Electric Motor operations required to achieve decent driving distances, would fail due to the sheer Physics required of ‘F=MA’ Concept, prohibiting this possibility because of the seriously increased vehicle weight.

Over the years… the Basic Design concepts of Electric Batteries such as the early experimental “Leiden Jars” used by Benjamin Franklin that were required to store enough Electrical Potential have only slowly, painstakingly and parsimoniously improved. The later designs involve some serious safety problems brought along with the Chemistry of Lithium Ion Batteries that had to be tamed so that if punctured, they would not instantaneously explode or burn furiously on contact with moist air enough to Kill the Electric Cars ...AND the Occupants that might become trapped inside of vehicles experiencing horrendous rapid and furiously hot Car Fires.

The Airline Industry may have been the first to suffer from a series of Bizarre Plane Crashes while transporting these Li-Ion Batteries from Sea Level, where they behaved themselves up to much Higher Altitudes with Lower Air Pressures; a phenomena that was sufficient to cause the Battery Encasement Containers to fail and then instantly “Flame On” and set the Airplanes ablaze. In time, with the use of Specialty Plastics playing their part, these new developments at least partially tamed this Chemistry, yet still provided enough “Juice” to flow to make using them worthwhile for Re-Chargeable Li-Ion Applications.

But even with the immediate safety issues reigned in… the other issues still in need of figuring out are, “How Can We Make Batteries LIGHTER and More Efficient?” also lead to the Question of “How Can We SPEED UP the Time it takes to Re-Charge Them?” The Scientists and Engineers in the Electra-Motive Field took a looked back in time to the ORIGINAL Concepts of what makes a Typical Battery Work....and The Leiden Jar.... and found Potential in Capacitors.

Some Historians surmise that it was this very Technology for storing Electrical Potential that may have been used in the Construction of the Ark of The Covenant; thereby giving it the ability to render High Voltage Shocks as “The Power of God” to warn away anyone touching the Golden Box that held The Original Commandments as written down by Moses.

The answer to the problem of Long term Storage would center around creating Super Capacitors as storage units that can hold their Densely Fed Electric Charges for VERY Long Time Frames and then rapidly dishcarge their power. Unlike Ordinary, Heavy Lead-Acid Batteries… Some Electrical Capacitors can store their Hidden Charges for decades. What might become the NLBP (Next Level in Battery Power) could emerge from using Capacitors instead of any other types of Batteries in a given system. The other issue is that under normal conditions… Capacitors can be charged up in mere fractions of the time that is required to charge any other Battery Systems, making them much more efficient for addressing the need for Quick Turnarounds. Why Not Use BOTH is the Electric Vehicles to serve different electrical demands? Oh Yeahhhh...

Tesla and Elon Musk’s SolarEx Company have invested a great deal of time and money (and sheer in trying to guarantee that whatever Electrical Grid or Power Stations emerge in the near future to behave like “Gas Stations” for Electrically Powered Transportation will work in a Fast and Reliable manner to feed the various vehicles all of the Electric Power they require to Re-Charge and Run with the least amount of delay in between… including after the Sun Goes Down night after night. One Small Company in particular that emerged as a HUGE player on “The Battery Power” landscape… Is MAXWELL. These Videos will provide insights and an in-depth view of How This Technology could Work and How this issue may play out … very soon. Make No Mistake… Elon Musk and the Tesla Corporation liked enough of what they were doing, so they straight up acquired the Maxwell Dry-Cell Batteries and Super Capacitors Company…. And now here is "The Backcloth Story":

Another Video on the Maxwell Purchase done by a SUPERB Engineer… And is Very Worth Watching:

Here are a couple of “Super Capacitor” Videos in action on the Bench and in the Field using a Solar Panel for Charging-Re-Charging these DIY SOLN1 Kits. @Blckshdw will enjoy these views:
