Hi,
This might have been asked many times but I failed to see anything in Search.

In the spring I will need new tires for my 2003 Envoy XL with 5.3. I have found a good price for TBSS wheels. Will I have any issues? Rubbing? Speedo? My vehicle sits at factory height with functional air suspension in rear. Thanks in advance

I've got a set waiting to go on my Voy. I had my brother strip them and I hand sanded and polished the crap out of them. I'm also waiting on my tax return to wrap them in a nice set of rubber. I'll be running 275/45/20 tires. Stock tires on the SS is 255/50/20

How wide are those stock SS wheels? I thought they were only 8 and that seems bit narrow for a 275

I just know the 275 I have on my 9.5 are nice n square, no bulge or stretch. Prolly will bulge some on 8s but sounds like people get by with them. I been trying to make sure I get full tread nice n flat these days, cause I know I ran some silly things like 12,5 mud tires on 8 wides in the past and it really did mess with the tires.

In my experience with tires and the few years I spent mounting tires, my opinion is to stick with the stock size when dealing with such a low profile tire.

Yes, you can get that tire on the wheel, but you will be dealing with a more rounded shoulder than the squared-off stock size tire...as well as higher rolling resistance.

I cannot imagine any real benefits aside from a cool looking wide stance.

Just my $.02.

50 and 45 are not low profile these days, esp with the widths discussed. You get lower profile stock currently on many vehicles. I run 275-35-18 and they really dont seem that low profile on my car.

I did mounting and balancing for a few years myself and still do my big mud tires by hand. Lower profile sucks to mount, but super common these days.

I'm running 12.5 wides on my 8.5 wide wheels. Tread wear looks perfect. I can't see any uneven wear. It has only been about a year and half on em though so we'll see how they look in another year, but right now they look great.

Depends on the height of tires. My silliness was 31 12.5 15 on 15x8 Not much sidewall and kinda crowned the tires and they got real hot. Hot enough to cause tread separation on one and explode another.

My 12.5 35s on 17x8.5 are perfectly fine and wear nice and flat.

That makes more sense. I have 33x12.5x17. The 31x12.5 probably looked pretty sweet. Was that before you were body lifted?

Would anyone know of a source for GMC center caps for these wheels?

You could always measure the opening on the wheels, and then search online. I'm sure there may be more than 1 style available, you'd need to find one you liked, and then see if they come in the right size. Similar to what you'd do for wheel locks. :twocents:

Did you only sand, polish, and clear coat them (no paint?)? Those look amazing! I have a spare set of rims I need to strip and sand. They're not SS rims but, I figured they're all aluminum rims and it shouldn't matter?

Just sand and polish, no clear coat. I think clear coating them will result in them yellow after being sun beating and eventually start peeling. I don't mind hand polishing them every few months so long as I get the same look everytime.

I did the same procedure to my stock 18" wheels and they've held up really well, I do however coat them in some wd40 when I know they'll been snow and salt on the ground just to keep them half decent before I polish them again.

I thought someone on the forums had produced an overlay to go on with the 9-7x/SS wheels. Not sure what ever happened to him thou.

Something like this I believe is what you are looking for..
eBay Link

If you do a search for 9-7x center caps on eBay, you will find some that are custom in this design. Carbon, crosshatch, and other things.

The rims have 255/55R/20 tires. Will they fit my stock Envoy XL ok?
