Been a real long time since I replaced a starter. The 94 350 starter has started to click a time or two before engaging so I assume the soleniod is going bad. Battery is new and everything else electrical works as should. When cold the starter does crank a little slowly than Im used to. What kind of starters do you all recommend these days. Direct drive? Gear reduction? Reman? New? 152,000 miles on k1500 GMC

For me, I usually just buy a standard replacement at my local Autozone. I prefer new, but will take a reman'd starter if the warranty is the same as new. That way, if and when it goes before the warranty expires, I can usually go and get a replacement the same day.

The amount of money I'd spend on a starter will also depend on how long I want to keep my vehicle. If I'm thinking of trading it in sometime soon, the cheaper the replacement will be.
