For the first time ever, we are a GM-less driveway. With being gone Monday-Thursday, they never got driven and it was time to combine two vehicles into one nice family friendly vehicle. Corvette was $600 a month with insurance thats ridiculous, and the Siverado averaged 11mpg.. just time to move on.

Drove the new explorer, felt like a boat, drove the Acadia Denali, needed a nicer interior before plopping down 50 grand, the Acura MDX, felt a little dated, and a few other German SUVs, we ended up with a 2012 BMW X5 Xdrive35d. The gas mileage is incredible. Matches the Corvette in economy yet will tow like the Silverado did. Pretty amazing machine with lots of technology. It is nice consolidating to one vehicle so the driveway isn't so full. At any given time, a member of the family had 4 vehicles at their disposal. Just was a little excessive...

Last shot of the Corvette and the Silverado with the new BMW. They are gonna be missed. :frown:

Shopped around a few different dealers to see what they would give us, then tried selling them for 2k more and it just wasn't happening. I feel on some of these higher priced vehicles, people are less inclined to give some private person 35k vs 35k at a dealer where the car gets inspected etc.

This dealer gave us the most for our trades and we got around 11k off the sticker of the X5 so it was a no brainer. People just aren't interested in buying an 11mpg pickup truck right now or a sports car right before the snow flies. Made out decently. Bought the Silverado brand new and only lost 15k on it in almost 5 years so that wasn't too bad and Vette's don't really depreciate we found lol.

Ill only say that it wont tow like the Silvy simply because the X5 isnt as long. The 3.0L turbo diesel that X5 has makes serious torque, 425ft/lbs but only 265hp. Honestly, who gives a hoot when it comes to towing as its mostly torque anyway. I didnt see towing capacity listed on BMWUsa's site, but I'd guess its right around what the TBSS can do at 6000-6500lbs. I love my LS2, but if GM actually produced that 4.5L V6 Duramax they have already designed and shelved, Id buy one and stick in my (or another) SS and have a sweet midsize tow vehicle.

Sorry to see all the GMs go, my parents have each had their Audis for the last 2 years (mom) and 9 years (dad) plus my brother has an 08 Jetta. Im the lone one with my TBSS and then we have the 02 TB as a winter truck.

I don't think we will notice a difference to be honest. Our truck had a trailering capacity of probably 11k or more with its power. We only ever used its fully potential once. And that was when I moved up to North Dakota. Had a 24' enclosed filled to the brim from the front to the last 6ft. Then we had two crotch rockets haha. That was the only time we ever really utilized it. Most of the time all we ever towed was the 21ft Four Winns that weighs about 5k completley loaded with gas and skis and stuff.

And yea, you are close. The X5D is rated at 6700lbs. So we aren't really concerned lol. The amount of just sheer grunt this thing has, will surely be enough to haul ANYTHING we need to tow. And it averages upper 20s on the highway lol. Managed 25.6 at 80mph with the four wheeler on its 10X6 behind it. So that is pretty damn incredible...

I almost bought a TBSS after my 03 Trailblazer but I just can't afford the gas in that thing.. lol I really wanted it though. Midsize fast SUV that could tow the boat. Would have been mint...
