Slightly High Oil Pressure Reading

Hello All. My wife has a 2005 TB LT 236K (I have a 2006 TB LT and love it to death...which is my plan. Not sure which will die first...me or the TB). Lately the oil pressure gauge has been reading a bit high...pretty much all the way to the right. Then after a day or two it will go back to normal. First...yes I know its not a true oil pressure reading. Second...replaced the switch about 8 months ago then this started. Things calmed down. Now history repeats itself with this new round of insane readings. Since it's just a switch monitoring the oil pressure I don't think the engine is really generating these air compressor scale pressures I'm seeing (again...switch). I'm thinking the gauge itself is the source of the problem. Has anyone had gauge failures where the gauges read high like this? To complete the whole experience....here's a pic of the gauge!

Since you have a 4.2 according to your profile, those readings are fake. Period.
Trailblazer oil pressure gauge doesn't tell you the oil pressure (4.2L engines) (YouTube)
The only time it tells the truth is when it reads 0. All other readings are fabricated by the PCM. If you get a 0 reading AND a message saying (if you have a DIC) saying "LOW OIL PRESSURE-STOP ENGINE" or a light saying to check gauges, then you have no oil pressure. Treat it like an idiot light.

It looks like the stepper motor for your oil pressure gauge has died. You can fix it or just ignore it if you're not getting any other warnings. If you want, you can double check with a real mechanical gauge.
Where to connect a real pressure gauge
