Is it normal to have a transmission fluid glaze on these transmissions? 2004 4.2 envoy. Since i bought it in 2005 there has been a glaze of trans fluid on the pan and actual trans but doesnt pour out it just seeps out not even a drip after hard use. Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

I had this happen...so I cleaned the bellhousing and pan real good with some brake cleaner and then checked again after a day or two. Turned out stator shaft seal on the pump was on its way out, so I dropped the trans over a weekend and rebuilt it. So, first thing you need to do is figure out exactly where the leak is coming from, then go from there.

Thanks for the help! I actually found the problem (thankfully) it was 4 severed pan bolts. They werent over tightened they just must have been under some stress i guess? But its all fixed now. I changed fluid, pan, gasket and remaining bolts while i was at it.

same thing happened to my daily driver..

was actually leaking trans fluid, took it to the dealer jjust to diagnos what was leaking , and it turned out to be pan bolts not tightened to specs... tightned them down, leaking stopped for a day, then came back.. so now i knew it was another issue..

you never know I guess. so far so good its been about 4 weeks since i did the work and no more leaking or glazing. Who ever did the transmission pan bolts before must have really torqued them or maybe mine never was done before and they just ended up breaking who knows....
