Security or chip key in envoy

Does anyone know if our envoy's have a security or chipped key? I want a spare key to have and want to know if I can just get a key cut at a hardware store. I've read that we do have some sort of security and that a key has be gotten from the dealership and I have read that any key cut from a hardware store will work as we have no security system. Will a $2 hardware store cut key work?

I am in Canada, but glad to hear I can get an "old school" key. Having the Denali won't make a difference will it?
