Trans Cooler Lines.jpg

I’ve read that the saabs trans lines get exposed to water then rust same about the brake lines.

I did actuelly look around the back wheels only saw rubber brake tubes.

If anyone has images of where these tubes get rusted would be a hugh help during a inspection.
I’m not yet familiar w/ the Saab. Thanks for advice.

On my Trailblazer, there are long tubes that come forward from the transimission housing, and short tubes that go backwards from the bottom of the radiator. You diagram mostly shows how they work-ish.

When mine rusted, they rusted near where the two subes come together, which is in the engine bay.

You can kind of trace them back from the bottom of the radiator, and follow them up to where they meet the lines from the back in the upper part of the passenger side engine bay.

It can be in different spots. Mine leaked at the top of the tranny (1 or 2) because I had bent them a bit to replace the starter. They were pretty rusty all over. They are in 4 parts and have a connection at the front part with clipped connectors. Some have rusted in the front lines, some in the rear, some at that junction. Basically, they can rust anywhere but can be exacerbated where they are in contact with each other and can retain water and mud to make them rust even more.

I will look and feel the complete trans. line. do the brakes mave metal lines that should be inspected for rust?

is it mandatory to bend trans line for starter removal?

I believe the high pressure steering lines on the driver side look sketchy
is this a know problematic area pron to rust?

edit: I attempted to reinstall the engines air filter cover. is there a procedure for this I was unable to place it where it's supposed to be bolted down. thanks again for tips.

FWIW...

Here is a .PDF showing the Long and Short Transmission Cooler Lines being offered on eBay for a range of years for the SAAB 9-7X with comparative images shown below each link.

These offers from eBay include both the Dorman Brand for the Long Lines and the GM OEM flavors for the Short versions which seem designated for SAAB 9-7X vehicles sporting 5.3L and 6L Engines ...if those distinctions matter in your present
situation:

Brake lines are coated with some sort of plastic but not all the way. The ends near the fittings are exposed. You could check them if you wish.

I had to move them a bit on my V8 truck. That engine is really shoehorned in there.

Both lines are prone to rust in the rubber isolator on top of the shock tower. Remove that isolator and inspect the lines. If they're still OK, leave that isolator off and apply either a rust paint or some rust protection to them. Just zip-tie them together.

Nothing special. Just put it in and screw down the four screws. Just make sure the front snorkel is in place first. There is a slot in the washer tank that holds it in place.

My trans lines rusted under the heat protective sleeve near the trans case and exhaust. Removing the lines at the trans is a PITA and lowering the tail of the trans is almost a necessity, but easy to do. The hard part is contorting your body to reach the fittings.

The coated brake lines hold up very well if not compromised. Aftermarket brake hoses are plentiful, but if you want to stick with OE lines, I would make a list now as parts are becoming NLA rather quickly, this includes weatherstripping.
