Like many of you in the Northern climates I must deal with rust and I HATE it!

My 2009 9-7X has the rusted hood problem. A couple of years ago I ground out the rust, made repairs from fiberglass and painted it. It held up for a while, but I knew it wouldn’t last.

I had been looking for a good, used, blue hood but never found one. I broke down and ordered one from esaabparts.com and got the paint from automotivetouchup.com.

The paint process took me a Sunday afternoon. I put the clear coat on a bit too heavy and need to sand it with 1500-3000 then buff it. I plan to do this in a month. The fit and finish on the hood from esaabparts is fantastic. The hood strut, insulation and ground strap all fit just like the factory part. I even topped it off with a new hood badge.

The color match of the paint from automotivetouchup was extremely close.

I am happy with the way it turned out. Here are some before, during and after shots of the project.

And the real question... How much did that hood cost? If I'm not mistaken, these are genuine Saab hoods, supposedly made in Sweden.

It is part number 89044602 and was $330.06 on their site when I bought it. I do not see it listed anymore so you may have to contact them for availability. It was a perfect fit!
